Landess Funeral Home, Inc. in Campbell, Missouri was established in 1920, when E. W. Landess came to Campbell from Van Buren, Indiana. He purchased the A. B. McBride Undertaking Co. and operated from that building on Front Street, in Campbell, adding a paint and wallpaper store to the business. Mr. Landess was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois and was the first licensed embalmer in the area.
He held licenses in Indiana, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas. In 1934, E. W. Landess and his son Robert B. Landess formed a partnership and purchased the old Medley home in Campbell. This was converted into a modern funeral establishment. In 1938, Robert B. Landess married Christina Martin, a school teacher from Holcomb, Missouri.
