Hardwick Post & Beam is a small company of craftsmen shaped by two generations of a family over thirty years. Shortly after forming our company, we worked with other timber framers around the country to co-found the Timber Framer's Guild, "dedicated to the art and science of timber framing." Over the years we've learned to listen carefully to our clients' needs and ideas for their project and then bring our decades of experience to their vision.
In our Massachusetts workshop, we design the timber frame and cut the joinery, then travel to the clients' site to assemble and erect their frame. First of all, we approach each project as a team. Though we are a small company, we have a spacious shop and a skilled crew of craftsmen, so we can take on the most challenging or painstaking jobs.

Services
For over 35 years we have been building timber frame structures here in the northeast and all across the country. From homes, restaurants, farm stands, pavilions, barns or any other style of building, we can design and build to suit your needs. We are a fully custom crafted company with each of our timber frames being unique to every client.
We have an optional, in-house design service and often custom design the buildings that we frame, working directly with the property owners to determine their needs and goals for the project. But we also build frames from floor plans that come to us from architects and contractors. We construct the frame out of heavy timbers, using mortise and tenon joinery that we cut in our shop.
Though we often work with our client's architect or contractor, most of our clients want us to design their building. For more than 30 years we've been designing, as well as building, timber frames. Because we've had extensive experience, we can design the building that our clients envision. To help clients develop a plan for a house, addition, barn, or commercial building, we consider three things:.
The building design may come from us or from an architect or contractor. In any case, our team creates a separate frame plan based on the floor plans that the client has chosen. No job is too big or too small. After we've signed a contract to build, we order the timbers according to the client's preference for wood species.
Floor plans may come from our in-house design service or from an architect or contractor. Or from our client's kitchen table! Whatever the source of the plans, we listen to our clients. Then we bring our knowledge and experience to the project. While framing is what we do, we are thoroughly familiar with all aspects of constructing a building, from foundation to finish.

I finally found a wonderful lot to build my house on, but I was very sad to have to take down several big, beautiful red oaks to make room for the driveway. So I was committed to using the wood in my house. My biggest prize is one of the tree trunks that stands whole as a 16' post in the middle of my house, which HP&B prepared and installed. I visited their shop while Christian was debarking and treating the tree, and I was impressed with his care of it, the way he touched it and talked about it. I knew it was in good hands. This man clearly loves his work. They also cut and installed my porch

We own a home on the Mad River in Warren, Vermont. One of the most delightful aspects of our property is driving into our driveway and feasting our eyes on the river. The most unfavorable aspect of our property was NO GARAGE! We lived through several winters scraping snow off our cars - and we mean a lot of snow. Yet, we just weren’t willing to sacrifice our vista of this quintessential Vermont river for a traditional garage. Our good fortune was to connect with Christian and his team of talented craftsman at Hardwick Post and Beam.

In the Spring of 2017 my wife and I met with Ridge and Christian @ HP&B to discuss plans for a Timber Frame addition. We left with a hand shake and a deposit to secure our spot in the "line up".
Prior to breaking ground this July, we had numerous meetings with Christian and Bob. Bob would come to our house to discuss things through the various phases of our project. Timber sizes, joinery up size/down size etc, etc. Bob was awesome to work with he was very knowledgeable and always helpful in offering suggestions. Bob is a true gentleman. Bob never pressured us and he was just as good @ listening

THE VERY BEST! My husband and I have been planning our home build for 3 years, HPB was the first Post and Beam company we reached out to. Christian was amazing, he responded right away and very quickly came to our home in Brooklyn to have a one on one meeting with us. We received a quote and plans within the week. We couldn’t believe how quickly our vision had materialized!
This is our first home build and we felt we needed to be educated in our decision making process, so we reached out to several other reputable framing companies. We were very lucky and all the companies we dealt with were

After looking at several timber frame builders in the northeast United States, we engaged Hardwick Post and Beam because the quality of their work was so above and beyond all of the competitors.
While they are slightly more expensive than other options, we felt the money was well invested as the end result is just beautiful to look at, and better… constructed. All of the posts and beams are pegged, the braces have beautiful curved chamfers. The roof joists are arched where they meet the main beam. Many of the competitors have lapped joints that didn't really seem to fit well.
