Whether you train casually, frequently, or would like to become a serious competitor, Hurricane Jiu Jitsu has a class that will suit your needs. Our programs will help enable you to live a healthy lifestyle, gain flexibility, lose weight, and have fun during every class. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a system of combat that focuses on takedowns, controlling your opponent on the ground, and ending the match with a submission.
We define 'submission' as any technique that helps immobilize your opponent, while having the potential to cause bodily damage or unconsciousness. These include chokes, arm locks, leg locks, foot locks, and more. We prioritize safety during training, and students are trained to 'tap' when caught in submissions, long before any harm is done.

Services
Our environment is pretty casual. Just use common sense and respect your training partners and instructors at all times, and you'll get along just fine. Drill only the movements shown by your instructor, unless given permission to do otherwise. Competitors and advanced students are typically welcome to drill technique that isn't being taught that day.

40 year old Blue Belt training for 5 years. I’ve trained in multiple gyms all over the USA while traveling. Dropped in for a class while passing through town. It was apparent that John is an excellent instructor who has a passion for teaching. The gym was welcoming, clean, ego free and has a lot of mat space. Excellent Jiu Jitsu vibe from the rolls to the art on the walls. If I lived in CLE this is where I’d train.

This is a phenomenal place to train. I am completely new to BJJ and I have felt welcomed here since I started a little over a month ago. The instructors John, Chris, and Darla are great. Not only are they great BJJ players, but they’re hands on and care about student progress. There aren’t any egos here, and even higher ranks are willing to train with me and teach me. No one has made me feel ignorant for not knowing the basics. I think they all realize that you have to start somewhere. Lastly, there are class offerings for every skill level and schedule. I hope anyone considering trying BJJ

This is an awesome place to train! I was in town for a couple of days visiting my best friend. I stopped by Hurricane BJJ to learn some moves and sweat out all the alcohol from Great Lakes Brewery (which was amazing btw. Good job Cleveland). The facility is huge and has two separate changing rooms. They have like a bazillion black belt instructors as well. We warmed up and Chris went over the deep half. Then we did King of the Hill for 8 mins, drilling what we learned and then had time for a couple of rolls. The two people I rolled with treated me with respect and didn't headhunt. They gave

Jo(h)n welcomed me as a sleepy-eyed drop in for morning class. He even loaned me a belt when I sheepishly realized I'd left mine at home. The mats & space were very tidy, with a good splash of natural lighting. And dig that mural artwork! I happened to be the only gal in class that morning, but felt as comfortable as I do in my home base gym. Everyone was friendly & ready to roll. I look forward to dropping in again!

Having a great experience with HJJ. Both of my son attend kids classes at age 10 and 11 and are doing great. There learning and advancing with each class. The coach is great. Very intune with what he see in the boys. Atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming.
HJJ is showing my boys confidence, friendship, respect, and skills. I highly recommend

Fantastic technical instruction, great facilities, friendly and competitive teammates. Training at Hurricane Jiu Jitsu has been one of the most challenging and rewarding activities I've ever done. Additionally my six year old son also takes classes there, going to the kids classes is one of his favorite activities. If you're looking for the best in self-defense, Hurricane Jiu Jitsu is the place to go.

A great school. i singed up as a blue belt and have been working hard to reach that purple. things are going great. i feel good about my passing and my guard. it's a great atmosphere to learn. we drill and explore techniques, work hard and have fun. we laugh a lot.
there are some great competitors there working hard to build a tight game. training with them can get fast and challenging, but it's technical and rewarding.
John's a great instructor, patient and attentive to how each of his students are approaching jiu jitsu. he's a great competitor and an awesome teacher.
