By joining START Academy you will become part of a bigger family formed by a select few people. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has become the most in demand martial art because of its practicality in everyday life and usage in the MMA world. Here at START you are welcome to train amongst the best no matter what level you are.
The program is delivered in a safe environment. Capoeira is an afro-Brazilian form which blends dance; martial arts, and acrobatics into one beautiful art like no other. Our kids classes are designed to make kids not only learn the art but develop more ability, focus, and much more. Classes are 45 minutes to 1 hour long, starting with a dynamic warm up followed by Capoeira moves, ending with fun exercises.

The academy is very clean and any questions or concerns I have, there is always someone there who is knowledgeable and can help me. They help build confidence and discipline, not to mention great self defense techniques. My daughter has been going there for over 6 months and she loves it! Great family oriented place for your kids to grow and learn.

We were recommended by another great jiu jitsu school in downtown Miami, and we are very happy to have found Start Jiu Jitsu. My three kids have been going there since we moved to the area and they have kept fit and have been developing great techniques and discipline. The instructors are also very good with them. Overall i am thankful to have them close by.

START is awesome! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to family or friends. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The enthusiasm and energy the instructors and students share make the environment great. The Academy is kept clean and sanitized. For my fellow first responders, START is very welcoming to us and the staff understands the needs of our career field. If you’re thinking about learning Jiu Jitsu I highly recommend START.

START is the best place to train! As a female wanting to learn BJJ, I was looking for a friendly place where a beginner could grow without getting crushed every class. Lol I found FAR more... START is like a family! The instructors are some of the best in world and break classes down in a way that are easy to digest & also challenging. The other students are amazing - friendly, helpful, fun. The community is incredible and I highly recommend to anyone interested in learning more!

Just joined two weeks ago and have really enjoyed my experience already. The staff and instructors are phenomenal and make learning bjj fun and easy to understand. The other members are also very friendly and treat you as though you’ve been a member for years. I look forward to going to each class and can’t wait to track my progress in the months to come!

Typically people only leave initial reviews. I've decided to leave an "extended stay" review, as I feel some users would like to see if the quality is still there for the reviewer. This is my 3rd year at START, and it only gets better with time. Just yesterday, I attended a "black belt" advanced class (which is open to higher belt holders), and the mats were filled with high level bjj practitioners. It always is, but yesterday was special in my mind.
On one end, I had my professors, who are in a class by themselves, along with one of the best brown belt competitors in the world

It’s easy to feel intimidated whenever you begin something new like jiu jitsu or any martial art, but my first class at Start Jiu Jitsu Academy, I was welcomed very warmly and I was made to feel very comfortable. Professor Raphael, Alex, and all of the instructors are very humble, friendly, and genuine people. They always make me feel like I am important and that they care about me and being apart of my journey with Jiu jitsu.
