Gary was born and raised in Tooele. He completed his Bachelor's degree at Southern Utah State College and graduated with his DVM from Colorado State University in 1991. Gary has worked as a veterinarian in Tooele for over 20 years. He enjoys all aspects of the mixed animal clinic and practice ownership with it's constant challenge and variety.
Our practice's philosophy is to provide the best possible care for your animals. To accomplish this, we encourage yearly wellness exams, vaccinations to meet your pet's needs, parasite prevention, dental care, and nutrition counseling. Our doctors and staff are very knowledgeable on how to keep your pets healthy and happy.
Pets are susceptible to many different diseases and parasites. Protecting your pet is our primary goal, so developing an appropriate vaccine schedule for your pet is important to us. We offer a variety of vaccinations for companion animals, along with equine and livestock. Vaccinations offered for dogs include DHLPP, Bordetella, Rattlesnake Anti-venom, and Rabies.
Dental care is an important element to your pet's overall health. Our clinic offers dental scaling and extractions, along with teeth cleaning. We also carry supplies and supplements to care for your pets teeth. We offer dental services for dogs, cats, and horses. Our surgical services offer an array of procedures from orthopedic to reproductive surgery.
Countryside Animal Clinic offers state of the art digital x-ray to aid in your animal's diagnosis. Whether the issue is a broken bone, foreign object, pregnancy determination, or lameness in a horse, our radiograph equipment is available. Along with digital x-ray, we have a portable ultrasound used in both small and large animal diagnosis.

Waited 30 minutes after our scheduled appointment time to be called back, only to wait another 20 minutes before I finally just asked a tech to give my dog the shot without seeing the actual vet. They also charge you the same amount whether you see the vet or not, so I just paid $54 for one shot for my dog plus the 50 minutes I spent there doing nothing with my baby and toddler🙃
I understand things come up with other patients but it’s been like this both times I’ve been here. If you’re not going to stick to your scheduled appointments, why even have appointments at all?

Went on a super busy Monday, apparently there was a training and a couple emergencies that day, so my wait for my appointment was over an hour. I'll be honest, I was so ready to walk out. I waited though and it was worth it, the staff and Dr. Shosted (sp?) were so great. Very kind and apologetic about the situation, I just wish they could have rescheduled the appointments later in the day, I had brought my cat in for shots and he was in his kennel so long, he pooped in it, which doesn't normally happen. I would still recommend this office for the wonderful staff though!

I had an emergency visit set up within an hour for my animal after I walked in first thing in the morning,.they took great care of my dog, were very knowledgeable.Very clean and sanitized, other animals and customers there looked happy and seemed very satisfied as well.. Because they took such great care of us I give them a four and will definitely be going back.

I really like this vet, they are super nice and I trust there diagnosis. However the only problem with this vet is when you have an appointment that was made well over a month ago you are usually there for hours. I had a appointment at 1030 and didn’t get taken into the back until after 11, didn’t see the vet until 12. So plan on being there for at least 2 hours even if you have an appointment.

Every time I’ve taken an animal here I’ve had a pleasant experience. However calling to ask questions and get answers is not so pleasant. The on call vet is also about 2 hours away in an emergency( he was very kind and polite though) which defeats the purpose of having an on call vet when it is an emergency. It’s really hard to get a direct answer or even a pricing range which is disappointing considering most facilities are able to provide some sort of bracket range for procedures. It is unlikely I will take any of my animals here for that reason. I prefer to give my business to straightforward

Huge shout out to Dr Gowans and his staff today! My moms cat had been attacked by 2 stray dogs. My mom and dad both received wounds from the dogs and the cat. When they walked into the clinic they were muddy, bloody and completely shook up. The clinic treated them like gold. They not only took care of the cat, but got my parents basic medical attention. And, they called to check up on them. I know that the wait time can be crazy and flat out ridiculous at times here, but I also know that my pets and parents will receive the utmost best care! Thank you!!!!
