Laila Hishaw, DDS, FAAPD, is a board-certified pediatric dentist, speaker, and author of the Amazon best-seller, Cavity-Free Kids: How to Care For Your Kids' Teeth From Birth Through Their Teenage Years. She graduated from Pepperdine University, earning a B.S. in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Hishaw studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry where she graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery with Honors in Pediatric Dentistry.Thereafter, Dr. Hishaw completed a two-year residency specializing in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio, one of the most respected programs in the country.

Doctors are specially trained in diagnosing and treating the unique problems of children and adolescents. When children see other children having a positive experience, they have a positive model to follow. Committed to caring for all children including those with special health care needs (SHCN). Office is handicap accessible and routinely accommodates SHCN patients.
To ensure that every patient receives our Gold Standard of Care, verbal confirmation is required to secure all appointments. Written correspondence is given to our patients during most appointments. If a parent is not present during an appointment, the accompanying adult will be given these documents.

The doctor was fine. We paid for procedures in full before the procedures were performed. Insurance companies don’t do that but we did. A few weeks later we get bills saying we owe hundreds more!!! Called office and there was no explanation except that we owed more even though the treatment plan did not change from what was originally quoted. I even reviewed my quote with their billing person. I paid close to $3000 and they were sending more bills. Unacceptable. My pediatrics referred us here for but I reported back to our pediatrician our experience and they are reconsidering referring here

Great staff, great experiences over all! We live near the houghton office and drive out to the Swan location for the quality of care. They are super patient and supportive. Staff was incredibly engaging with both of my kids (who, admittedly, are not always the easiest!) as well as with the infants and toddlers I've seen cared for in the open exam room.

I take my son here and Dr. Hishaw is AMAZING. She is very thorough, attentive and she has great way with kids and parents. As a matter of fact the entire team is awesome. The office is very colorful and the waiting room is full of toys. After the visit they give the kids these little tokens so they can get a ball out of a machine. My kid looks looks forward to coming here which makes it a REALLY easy trip.

My son has been going here for a couple years. Their staff are patient and caring. Dentist visits are not always easy and my experience is they take it slow. The recently added tv screens to the ceiling in the cleaning area and my son enjoyed that! He had fun with Dr. Hishaw as his last visit... she let him check out her new dentist glasses.

Our boys have been cared for by Dr. Hishaw at Tucson Smiles for years. We have never had anything but positive experiences. Even my son with significant anxiety, walks back to the exam area independently and confidently, knowing he will be cared for in a gentle and respectful manner. Dr. Hishaw engages in fun and relevant conversation with the boys, and teaches them how to best care for their teeth, without shaming them. Her staff is always pleasant, and remembers details and interests about the boys and our family from visit to visit, making it a warm and inviting welcome each time we return.

I am really, really pleased with this place. They do a great job of putting my kids (8m, 5f) at ease without being silly, and informing them without being condescending or unpleasant. I very much like both dentists I've worked with and I'm very happy that we chose to switch our service here. Can't say enough!

Friendly staff always does a thorough job. Kids like coming here too because of the extensive toy selection in the waiting room.
Also, there's always a movie playing to entertain them, and they came up with the great idea of mounting TVs on the ceiling above the dental chairs for them to watch while getting examined.

This was our first visit and they took both of my sons back at the same time which was really nice! And the staff was INCREDIBLE! Both of the girls that took care of them were very patient and so sweet. My one year old is only about 15lbs and cannot sit up on his own but they knew exactly how to take care of him. My three year old loved it and was asking to go back. It's a fun office with lots of things for the kids to play with.We also saw Dr.D they said he is not normally at the swan office but he was wonderful. he let me look over his shoulder while he explained how to keep my kiddos teeth

I used to take my daughter to my general dentist, who is great but my daughter had some issues he could not address so he referred me to Tucson Smiles. We had such a great experience! I never knew there was a difference between our family dentist and a pediatric dentist. I like our dentist for my husband & me but I am switching all of my kids to Tucson Smiles!

I'm super bothered by "AJs" previous review as I can't even imagine either of the dentists at Tucson Smiles reacting as described... My daughter has been a patient of Tucson Smiles for 4-5 years now and we LOVE it there! In fact, I just took her in today and I have been thinking all day today how great EVERYONE is with the kids! They explain everything they're doing with the child and parent, and they're personable. Rather than diving right in with typical dental tools, they tell the kids they're "counting their teeth" and "making them sparkly

What an amazing experience! My son is 4 almost 5 and had his first cavity. I have had my own series of bad dental situations so I was pretty nervous, though I didn't share this with my son. They explained everything step by step and showed him each instrument. I'm pretty sure he didn't even realize he had been given the novacaine shots. They know how to talk to kids and keep them happy and calm. Great place!

Love this place. They are efficient, organized, and truly have your child's best interests at heart. My kids actually look forward to going to the dentist. Dr. Hishaw has incredible patient care. She instantly puts children at ease, and is a master at explaining to them - in child-friendly terms - what's going on with their teeth. I went to Tucson Smiles, because my child had a cavity. I told the dentist during our last visit that I didn't want my child to have novocaine. The dentist assured me they would only use nitrous and if the cavity was deep they would use novocaine (but she said it was unlikely) but would consult with me before using anything. Well, on the day of the filling, I left the room for a couple minutes before the dentist arrived and when I came back they'd just given my child a shot of novocaine. I was pretty upset because it seems like that is something one should discuss with the parent of
