Allen Academy is located in Riverside California and has been serving Southern California since 1998. We focus on internal validation rather than external. Many schools will participate in tournaments where students are pitted against one another in competition. Allen Academy seeks to teach our students how to conquer their inner enemies, vanquish their self-imposed limitations, and cultivate inner peace, which are much more rewarding pursuits.
In particular, we focus on the art of Shinsho, which is a comprehensive American martial art, a strategic system emphasizing self-defense and inspirational personal growth, incorporating the arts of Kempo and Jujitsu.

Services
Shihan Hendrix has been training and teaching at the Allen Martial Arts Academy since 2003. Shihan Hendrix has been involved with our Little Dragons, Fighting Tigers, and the Adult Self-Defense Programs, as well being a Mentor to selected students. He has received advanced training with Headmaster Allen through the Elite Training Program, and in 2010 he was bestowed the honor of Assistant Head Instructor.
Third Degree Black Belt Jane Burkheimer has been with the Allen Academy since 2004 when she started as a Tai Chi student. After embracing the entire curriculum, she has specialized in the Internal Martial Arts and public service Tai Chi teaching at various Riverside and Corona Park and Recreation Centers.
Our youngest students are 3 years old. These classes focus on listening skills, self-control, and having a fun time so they want to continue and are ready for martial arts. If they don't, please let us know. Every child has different developmental needs but a common peripheral benefit of studying at our school is an overall improvement in your child's life.

There aren't too many black belt instructors like the ones at the Allen Academy. I was very impressed at my information appointment. They were genuinely friendly and knew what they were talking about. I asked about the lineage of their system and unique style and they satisfied my questions. The workouts were appropriate for the fitness level of the class. I'm sure it gets challenging as the students progress though. The instructors used a variety of great calisthenics and stretching. The Allen Academy is a good cross section of men and women, young and old, and an ethnically diverse student body

I started at the Allen Academy in 2004, and was quickly impressed with the knowledgeable staff and friendly environment. The Academy helped me to grow immensely, and I stuck around to _earn_ my black belt and am now one of the instructors. I loved the impact, and the martial aspect, but I stayed because of the family environment and the positive impact they had on the community. I am proud to be a member of the organization, and continuing what my friend Brian Allen started.

I have been here for about five months. I have tried other styles and was not fulfilled. The Allen Academy is a breath of fresh air. They don't have your typical hide behind your belt instructors. They actually work out with the classes. This is a big deal to me, since all of them practice what they preach. Seeing some of the senior students is a bit discouraging at times, because they are really good. However, they even take time and volunteer their bodies to help me with techniques. My hats off to all the instructors. They have earned my trust, and have given me the motivation to sign up my daughter

I found the Allen Academy over 7 years ago, and it changed my life. At the time the school was being lead by Professor Brian Allen. Under his teaching I learned not only about the martial arts but how to help those around me. The Allen Academy taught me how to punch and kick, but more importantly it taught me to think. I began to think about my life, about those around me, and the path I wanted to walk. The Academy is now lead by Headmaster Hendrix Yuri and it feels just as strong as ever. I've been going to the Allen Academy since 2011 and did not know that when I joined the school that I would be joining a family. The instructors are great and they understand the different ways people learn which helps students understand the material.
The school emphasizes personal growth and the teachings can be applied to everyday life. The instructors are always available to discuss any issues you may have with the material and are always available to answer questions.
