Services
Dr. Canham graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Dentistry in 1993. Dr. Canham practiced in a large group practice in suburban Chicago for 7 years before relocating to Hilton Head Island in 2000. Once on Hilton Head Island, Dr. Canham purchased the practice Southern Smiles, located in a 900 square foot office located in the Courtyard Building just off of the Sea Pines Circle.
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions. Examine of intraoral photos: visual inspection of teeth, restorations and gums Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
Our office is conveniently located at 15 Lafayette Place at the intersection of Hatton and Lafayette Place by Walgreens and Bank of America at Indigo Run. We occupy the corner suite with wheelchair access to accommodate access for all of our patients. In addition to having a beautiful, ergonomic office designed for patient comfort, we have invested in the very best equipment to serve our patients dental needs.
Dr Canham & entire office are wonderful. I am a new resident to Hilton Head and had a huge problem with my Bridge and was able to get an appt quickly. Friendly and smart. Very professional and they care about each other and our families. Jennifer is also very professional & smart. Great front desk and check out person, helps find funding if major work need to be done Ps Dr. Canaham is very good and caring.

We are currently here visiting for a week. A member of our party had a temporary bridge come out and we needed a dentist just to glue it back in on an emergency basis. Despite their website specifically saying they take emergencies, they said it would be two weeks Before the dentist could fit him in for what should be a 10 minute procedure. Definitely would not recommend this practice.

Southern smiles is a welcoming and enjoyable dentistry. As a teenager most people are scared and not fond of the dentist but , southern smiles is definitely the place to be. The doctor was very nice and talked my daughter through what was going on. After having two teeth extracted and a cleaning, she only complained about numb lips...lol. Thank you Souther Smiles for making her experience enjoyable.

We are so happy to have found Southern Smiles. We have been coming as a family for over two years. It is a drive for us but well worth it. We love Dr Canham and the entire staff of Southern Smiles. They treat as though we are at the spa. The massage chair is extraordinary! We are always so impressed with the latest and greatest technology being used.
