Murray Hotel
The historic, 69-room hotel dating back to the late 1800's. Family owned and managed since 1882, this charming hotel is located in the heart of downtown Mackinac. We encourage our guests to relax in an atmosphere of Victorian-era decor or to step out our double doors onto Main street. Our old-fashioned atmosphere has been preserved, while our facilities have been updated to meet the needs of the modern traveler.

All rooms have their own private bathrooms. We at the Murray Hotel continue to impress visitors with the courteous and friendly service that has marked its success for over 135 years. A stay at the Murray Hotel affords our guests an opportunity to blend local hospitality, friendly service, and easy access to all Mackinac Island has to offer.
Services
Historic room with one queen bed and a view from the front of the hotel. Historic rooms have a smaller bathroom with a standing shower and toilet. There is a sink with a glass shelf above in the bedroom. Please note that since this is on Main Street, the room may be louder (horses, people, etc.). Deluxe room with one queen bed and a view of the harbor.
Informal Mexican grill serving made-to-order burritos, tacos, quesadillas, salads, pozole (Mexican soup), and bowls with fresh ingredients a la carte. Breakfast has many of the same options served with eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and veggies. An Island favorite for a quick and healthy breakfast or lunch!
The hotel is located on Mackinac Island, a small island between Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The Island has a lot of interesting history, which is preserved in its state parks. In the late 19th century, Mackinac Island became a popular summer tourist attraction. It is well known for its festivals, architecture, its fudge, and its ban on almost all motor vehicles.
The Murray Hotel is always looking for enthusiastic individuals who are looking to help further our mission and goals. Please see our employment page for the jobs we are hiring for. We will be starting the 2022 recruitment in December/January. Please feel free to apply at any time as we are always accepting applications.

Lovely old Victorian hotel. Our room was small but acceptable considering it was one of the cheapest places we could find on the island. The hot tub area looked nice, although we didn't make use of it.
Another reviewer complained about the lack of an exhaust fan in the bathroom. Happily, our bathroom looked recently updated and DID have an exhaust fan.
The amount of patterned wallpaper is a bit much. I wouldn't get rid of all of it, I just want a little more negative space.
Staff was excellent. Makinaw Island is a strange place but everyone at the hotel was happy to help navigate the eccentricities

Great customer service throughout our whole stay! The rooms may be small, but the beds are super comfy, and every room has a private bathroom and a TV. Discount on fudge for guests, and I definitely took advantage of that! I soaked in the awesome rooftop hot tub every day! It took or vacation from great to amazing!

My family and I come to Mackinac island twice a year and have stayed in different hotels and bed and breakfasts, and this place was the worst. Our room wasn't ready for 4pm check in (front desk let us check in but our room wasn't ready for us until almost 5pm) Secondly shortly after we get our room the toilet was clogged and overflowed. Also since we had a long stay we had to switch rooms in the a.m all we had to do is leave our luggage and couple bags organized and housekeeping would move them to our new room when we checked out. Well in the process of the move housekeeping managed to "lose" my

Murray is almost directly across the street from the StarLine Ferry dock. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Room was on the smaller side but adequate as we were only sleeping there. Mexican restaurant located in hotel. We really appreciated their luggage storage availability for before and after check out. Charming Victorian decor in room.

My family and I just spent six nights at the Murray. The hotel is great, we loved our room and the hot tub. The staff, however, is not friendly. The front desk and fudge counter staff make you feel like you are imposing when you ask a question or need help. In spite of unfriendly staff we would stay at the Murray again. The Murray is conveniently located in downtown Mackinac Island and fits my family's needs very well. Overall, I would recommend the Murray Hotel for a stay on Mackinac Island.

We would like to say how grateful we were for our great stay at the Murray Hotel in Mackinac. We stayed there 5 nights. We had an issue with the room we initially booked and the hotel moved quickly to get us into another room that worked out just fine! The hotel is clean and we appreciated the nice staff. The location is phenomenal as it is right across the street when you get off the ferry and in a good location on the main strip. The bell hops are quick to help you with all your luggage and with a smile! They amazed me with how they can arrange and carry so much luggage, sometimes even on a bike

Stayed here a couple times and have always had a great experience. Staff is very helpful. Complimentary coffee and donuts in the morning. Coffee is ok but the donuts are amazing. A little cheaper to stay than other downtown hotels. No water view but a main street view is available. Right in the middle of downtown. Nice hot tub after riding and walking all day.

This hotel and staff were amazing. First yes the room was small but they make sure you see that on the website. We had eight bags brought over from the ferry and my wife and I had plenty of room to walk. They are clean, the bed is comfy and shower has medium pressure. What else do you need on an island that you won't spend much time in the room anyway.
The staff is always welcoming and help you with anything you need. They do not have breakfast but a restaurant in lobby is fair pricing and a good amount of food for it. The food was awesome as well.
The hit tub and sitting area was welcoming as

I had a great experience at this hotel. I stayed on the third floor and I had very large windows in my room. The staff was really nice and it was great to have someone bring my very heavy bag up into my room. It’s incredibly centrally located, and is a very safe place to stay as a solo traveler. I have no complaints.
I was pleasantly surprised but what a good experience this was because I know a lot of the reviews on Google for the Murray are not that great.
If you are looking to avoid families and children at the pool area, go between 9 and 10 PM or in the middle of the day when everyone is

My husband and I loved our stay at Murray Hotel! The view was magical, the mid-town location was fantastic. The room was very clean, nicely arranged, and the bed and pillows were so very comfortable. The staff is the best –– warm, welcoming, and eager to help. I had low expectations for a Mexican-style breakfast, but it was so darn good! And the donuts – AMAZING! The Murray Hotel made our first overnight stay on the Island memorable!

The hotel was clean. The beds were comfortable. But then the tub drained backed up during my shower

The three staff members that we needed to interact with were a disaster. Upon checkin, the first staff member was a bit snotty. Maybe I wouldn't have noticed that if we hadn't just been treated so wonderfully from everyone on the Shepler's Ferry.

When we tried to buy fudge, the other two women couldn't interrupt their gossip session to get our order so we left. And yes, my husband spoke up to say 'could we get some of this fudge, please'. The one woman seemed to

The hotel located right across street from the star line ferry. So very convenient! And normal check in hour are 4pm, and they allow us to check in around 12 noon which is nice. The lobby is cozy and busy, has small restaurant area, fudge area and reception area. The decorations brings you back to the old days, though it's nice. We stayed here for 2 nights. The only thing is the sheets is so thin. Next time, I'm going to bring my own bed sheet!

So we are told that the original big draw was the Mackinac Island fudge, so we knew we had to try some while here. There were at least two fudge shops on every corner and more than one "original."

Some were interesting due to large windows to view the fudge being processed on marble slabs. Some had special deals, some had attractive packaging to take home. All vying for your attention.

What sold us on trying the fudge at Murray Hotel was (1) samples by the door and (2) nice cool tables (in their Mexican Cafe) to sit and enjoy the fudge and a respite from the traffic (bicycles &

One star is being generous. There's already very little to do at night, since Mackinaw Island is an archaic city on an island where everything in town closes at 5:00. So you would think that this hotel would offer entertainment amenities to supplement the lack of nightlife. Nope. Pool closes at 10, the television station lists are inaccurate and they're so cheap that they don't even provide HD. Furthermore I was baffled that they misspelled my last name.

I have mixed reviews about this Hotel. We stayed in the "Historic Standard View Room with a queen bed".

Pros: The location is amazing, right across from the ferry... it doesn't get better than that. Your luggage can be brought over for you, which is super convenient. The staff is friendly and helpful, and you definitely get a "historic" feel as soon as you walk in the door. The outdoor spa area is small, but nice. They have food options available, which we never tried, but it looked great. The room is pretty clean, but the bathroom floors did look pretty dirty.

Pros: cute and quaint place to stay right in the middle of downtown. Had food options as well as fudge right in the hotel. Hot tub available off the second floor. VERY CLEAN! Polite staff.

Cons: breakfast buffet was awful. Poor quality food. Worse than a free continental breakfast, but this we had to pay $10.99 each for! Plus $2 extra if we wanted juice (which was clearly mixed half with water). Hot tub was a nice amenity, but with a hotel that has as many rooms as it does, the hot tub had a sign posted it only had vacancy for 15 (!) so every time we went to go enjoy it, it was packed

So I am not a huge fudge fan and often won't pay for overpriced food. But holy cow this was place good and worth it!

The fudge is tender to chew and the flavors are much more creative here than most fudge places. I got the snickers, cookies and cream and birthday cake. So good!!!!

Have to at least sample fudge here. Well worth it!

The Murray Hotel is an awesome place to stay on Mackinac Island. It is a great value and the rooms are quaint but more than enough. The hot tub area is great and a nice place to take a break in the day. Blake, who checked us in, was very friendly and helped get us into a room when we arrived despite us being there before check in time. The rest of the staff we encountered were very friendly and made it feel welcoming. We will definitely be choosing this as our place to stay in future visits.

A lot of money for non-existing managers -

Unfortunately, if you need assistance from a manager you may have to wait a long time.

Stayed at this hotel for a weekend and needed to discuss my reservation with a manager. There was a family emergency where I had to check in a day later. I was shocked when the front desk workers repeatedly informed me throughout the weekend the manager was "off the premises" I must have went down to check if the manager was in 4-5 times throughout the weekend. Only until the end of my stay as I was walking out of the hotel to leave was a manager magically

We enjoyed our stay recently at the Murray Hotel and found the staff to be extremely friendly. Check in was super easy, including getting our luggage from the ferry and all the way up to our room with help from the dock porter, who was helpful and nice.

The room was definitely historic (dated, some would say) and tiny (there was barely room to walk around the double bed) but we didn't spend much time in the room so the location right downtown near shops, restaurants, the park, and the dock more than made up for the cramped quarters.

A highlight of staying at the Murray Hotel was the great

The Breakfast Buffet is best deal here on island for $10.95 plus tax . For bargain hunters, this is the place if you do not want to get ripped off.

1. I will say the fudge is very good. It seems that also try to cater to all things. The breakfast buffet becomes a pizza parlor in evening.

2. Toco bar I have never tried??

More to review as I try all the different fudges.

A perfect place in the most beautiful atmosphere. The Murray has everything that a perfect getaway could ever has, its old fashioned rooms are cozy and comfortable enough to forget about timing. Although it doesn't include breakfast, for ten box you can have a breakfast buffet. Rooms are clean, with a beautiful view, a tv playing "Somewhere in time "x 24 has done my staying here one of the most memorable.
Don't forget the fudge at the first floor (the best in town, after trying each one)...

Nice hotel, right across from the Arnold dock. The rooms are pretty small which is expected since they want to keep everything historically accurate and it's an old building. It's definitely big enough though.

They have good amenities like LCD TV if you must watch TV and wifi. They have a combined pool/spa on the deck which is nice if you want to relax. They sell fudge onsite to care for your immediate fudge needs. They have a breakfast buffet which is decent. They have a porter who can help you get your backs from the harbor to the hotel and also up to your room. They have an elevator

Stayed at the Murray many times; in fact we've stayed almost everyplace out here. I've got to take issue w the yelper who complained about the yogurt, and explain a bit about Mackinac customs.

On the mainland, people are green because they want to be. Out here, residents and businesses HAVE to be green. They pay for all non-compostable trash to be ferried to landfills on the mainland, so little individual yogurt tubs don't cut it.

And really, isn't a bowl more elegant? It makes me feel more like an honored guest than a hungry modern American suburbanite. The "soupy
