Brian J. Parker grew up in New York City, where he worked as an accountant at his father's firm during high school and college. After graduating from Baruch College with a business degree, Brian passed the certified public accounting exam on his first try, right out of college. Early in his career, Brian worked for accounting firms in New York City and Westchester County, NY before forming his own firm in 1982.
This tax act made sweeping changes to the U.S. tax code and impacts virtually every taxpayer and family. The TCJA made major changes in the tax law that affected 2018 and future tax returns. The TCJA is supposed to remain in effect for 2018 through 2025, when it then reverts back to prior tax law. We will see what happens in 2026.
For the most part, the limits increased slightly from 2020 because there was a rise in the cost-of-living index. If you are age 50 or older, you can contribute a maximum of $7,000 to an IRA for 2021, the same as for 2020. Elective deferral (contribution) limits to 401(k), 403(b) and 457(b) plans for 2021remains the same as 2020 at $19,500.
