A Jiu-Jitsu team is only as strong as its academy and at Barum Jiu-Jitsu we provide San Diego with one of the most spacious and welcoming academies to date. Centrally located in San Diego, our academy is just minutes away from the Pacific Ocean, but accessible from major San Diego freeways. BARUM JIU-JITSU operates on a single elimination system, which adheres to the official International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation rules (BJJ Rules).
We are located north of the Costco on Morena Blvd. in the Rose Canyon Business Park. Drive on Morena blvd north until the road ends, it will curve to the right and turn into Ariane. Do not turn right on Ariane rather go straight and a slight left into Rose Canyon Business Park. Then you will go strait untill you have to make a right and turn the first left down the ramp, we are the first building on the right.

Brazilian jiujitsu is a martial art, the practice of which involves a lot of trust and patience. You learn to master the movements of your own body and also learn to control and subdue your opponents.
The time involved for mastery is usually many years and the trust needed involves situations where your neck and limbs are in vulnerable positions.
It is imperative then that you feel safe and at home with your training partners and have a feeling of community with them.

I was able to attend an early morning class while on vacation. It was awesome - felt right at home while training/rolling and the head instructor, Alfredo, was super helpful and provided great tips and advice. Training partners were also incredibly friendly. The level of skill/talent here was phenomenal. I'd definitely come back.

I started training more than a decade ago and stopped due to injuries, work, etc. I came in to start my little girls 4 and 5 and ended up getting drawn back out onto the mat due to the nice family atmosphere and good vibes. I have been back training 3 times a week for nearly four years. My wife started about 5 months ago and now the entire family is here. Great woman's classes, kid's classes, and adult classes including a good number of folks like myself in their 50's (and 60's....). Affordable, clean, friendly ....come on down, the water is warm :)

I had a chance to meet and train with Alfredo Barum in an afternoon class. He welcomed us to his academy and was very friendly. Same with his students. We did some warm ups and he showed us a some awesome tech. It truly felt like a seminar. Great school all around. 5 stars. Obrigado Professor Barum.

My son is 4 years old and he has been going for two months twice a week. I really appreciate the friendliness and encouragement. Although my son doesn't pay attention all the time, they give him room to goof off, take a break and try to focus his attention again.
I really appreciate it when the father's who are volunteer in Jiu Jitsu help out in the kids classes. This is just fantastic because there is more guidance and supervision, plus they have children of their own in the class so they are used to children. I have taken my two daughter many different places in San Diego for lessons of different kinds. This is THE place if you have kids. Their adult classes seem great also, but I have not tried them. Barum Jiu-Jitsu really is amazing. It it combines a caring atmosphere with great training. Look no further.

They are so welcoming and loving. The facility is located in a naturally secure and well maintained campus. The instruction is amazing and the feeling at the academy is super nice, like the feeling you used to get on saturday mornings when you were a kid.
The owner Alfredo and his wife Graziela run this academy like a Jiu Jitsu Academy deserves. The kids classes are super fun, safe, technical and motivating.

Brazilian Jiujitsu is a martial art that takes patience and time to get proficient at. It also requires an unnatural amount of trust since the positions involved can be potentially dangerous. Keeping this in mind a training environment that is welcoming, warm and friendly (so that you look forward to going there day after day) and secure and safe (so that you don't get injured) is imperative!

Such great energy at this academy. Great knowledgeable instructors. Alfredo Barum really cares about the students and that they learn and improve. The students are not full of ego. It's a very safe environment. The energy here is wonderful and a big part of that is because the owner/head instructor is so positive and dynamic! I'd recommend this academy to anyone and everyone. You'll love it here

Barum jiujitsu is an outstanding place to study and train the art of Brazilian Jiujitsu. The Professor, Alfredo Barum, teaches a very technical style of jiujitsu. There is also an emphasis on safety in practice; students are carefully matched up and the Professor keeps a watchful eye on the training. The result being that there are very few injuries while also producing fine competitors. Another major plus for this school is the fact that it welcomes students of all kinds. Men and women train here, kids and adults, younger folks and older folks (I am 57 years old ) serious competitors and folks

Great Club and SUPER friendly workout atmosphere! These guys are always happy to help me out when I make the trip down.
Their open mat workouts are very good. I counted 6 BJJ Black Belts on the mat during the work out!
Alfredo and Harlan always make time to work with me on the dumb things I get stuck on.
For those that live in San Diego, these guys offer the most classes by far. I think they even have 6:00am classes and are open 7 days a week!!!
For people that don't live in San Diego, they're happy to have visitors regardless of affiliation !

Amazing gym. Unparalleled instruction by Alfredo Barum. Multiple classes everyday. Lots of students, but never too many where you don't get personal attention from a black belt. Multiple black belts visit, train and teach so you get all kinds of styles. Low price, and never is there a market push like Gracie Barra. I lost 40 lbs in the first 6 months training here. There are hundreds of jiu jitsu gyms in San Diego. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
