In the heart of South Carolina, tradition and tomorrow pair perfectly. As a creative hub that's fed by university and capital city communities, a gritty spirit and vibrant energy can be felt all around. It's a city where stately buildings buzz with new businesses and centuries-old sites give rise to fresh perspectives - all this in the midst of surrounding natural beauty.

With an unexpected food & drink scene, festivals year-round and a local shopping scene, Columbia SC will leave you looking forward to what's next. When you're ready to plan your safe getaway, we'll be waiting with a glass of sweet tea, unless of course you prefer something barrel-aged or bacon-infused.

We arrived at 12:31 pm on a Sunday and the building was dark and locked. A clock sign said they would return at 1. They just opened at 10!

If you go at the right time of day it's nice and lit up and feels safe. During those times you can also get maps and travel information. If you don't go during those times you get to walk around the back of a dark building to use the restrooms that may or may not be clean...

As a VC (visitors center) you should be open ON ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR TOURISM/CASUAL STROLL DAYS OF THE WEEK!!!!
Here's a thought, VC+STARBUCKS (always open, granted IGNORANT baristas but at least the pamphlets are within reach).
Oh, and I really loved the idea of being ambushed by the black, authority-laced security girl greeting me with YOU CANT PARK THERE in the VC parking lot, empty but for one red cars (yuh, take a guess who owns that one!).
Exit is chained off but the entrance is open.
No cones.
No signs.
Nothing saying VC CLOSED TODAY.
Nothing saying CRAFY FAIR EVENT PARKING ONLY

There was a Dino Museum exhibition here today, and of course it was a little cheesy with a great big expensive gift shop at the end, but the kids had a lot of fun in the bounce houses upstairs, so, that's all that matters.
By the way, this place is huge! I mean HUGE!, and everywhere you look there was beautiful cultural murals on the wall, and decor. I snapped some shots of it all.
There were also pretty views on the outside garden area. It was a very classy convention center.
My only complaint was that the water fountains needed some seriously better pressure. Children were having a hard time
