At that time I lived in North Carolina where painting was the family business. All of my uncles and cousins were either in the business or worked for a painting company.
I joined them while still in high school, working after school and during breaks. When I finished high school I went a different way for a bit but returned to painting after about 6 months. In 1982 I moved to Orange Park, at which time I started working for a local contractor. In 1983 I was ready to go out on my own.

There are varying factors that need to be accessed in order to be as accurate as possible.

Oil based or Alkyd paints have a harder finish, offer better adhesion on most surfaces especially older, chalky surfaces, provide a tighter paint film, can be applied at lower temperatures and have a glossier initial finish.However alkyd base paints tend to yellow, especially lighter colors and whites, they also take longer to dry and clean up with mineral spirits or paint thinner.
