This collaborative endeavor on the part of children, teachers, parents, and family consultants provides a rich and unique early childhood experience. Allen Creek Preschool is founded on an understanding of healthy child development that is based on psychoanalytic developmental principles.
The teaching staff at Allen Creek is as varied and unique as the children in our classrooms. As a group, they have over 100 years of experience working with young children. We value a range of qualities when hiring staff who work directly with children. A genuine interest in developing relationships with children, based on knowledge of child development and the ability to weave the interests and ideas of children into the daily curriculum.
The Family Consultant component is a unique resource to the Allen Creek community, available at no other area preschool, and is provided at no additional cost. Family Consultants are professionals with a specialization in child development - psychoanalysts, psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers - who are resources for Allen Creek families.
The administrative staff at Allen Creek serves to support the children and families, the work of the teachers and family consultants, and the smooth functioning of the school. Meghan has taught in a variety of preschool settings, including many years at Allen Creek, a special education inclusion classroom in Colorado, and a wonderful cooperative nursery school in Chicago.
Allen Creek Preschool is a nonprofit, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board is charged with nurturing the mission of the school and ensuring the school's long-term sustainability. The Board hires an Executive Director, who manages the day to day operations of the school.
The Board is instrumental in coordinating financial operations, marketing, development, and long-range planning, and recruits members from within the SE Michigan psychoanalytic community, from alumni parents, and from the business community.Lindsay is the marketing director for a large software company in Ann Arbor, having worked with Fortune 500 brands in B2B, B2C and non-profit environments.

I never write reviews, but I have to recommend this school. I have trusted them with both of my children and have been continually delighted with the experience they provide. Want kids who love to learn and are emotionally resilient? Send them here. The programs that they have for parent support, community-building, art, and music are all wonderful. The family consultant program is something you won't find anywhere else. The staff at Allen Creek helped us identify a learning disorder in my son that allowed us to get intervention much earlier than we ever would have on our own. I am forever grateful

Allen Creek is an amazing school. Teachers are experienced and truly gifted and the school rigorously supports their professional development. The family consultant program is unique and positively changed our lives. My husband and I learned to better understand our children's development, and became more effective, joyful parents. Our children were challenged intellectually and emotionally. They learned the fun of self-reliance and mastery, and that it's worth working for.

Allen Creek is a gift to the Ann Arbor community. Both of our children attended for multiple years and had wonderful, rewarding experiences. The teachers and staff are extremely dedicated and offer many years of expertise and knowledge. The school interacts with children in a way that is developmentally appropriate, rather than simply talking to them like little adults (or worse, like big babies). We made many friends at Allen Creek, who we continue to enjoy well after our kids have left. What a great group of people and families!

This is our daughter's second year at Allen Creek, and we are all loving it! I was a little nervous about sending her to preschool because she'd been at home with me since birth, but the teachers at Allen Creek facilitated a thoughtful, caring transition for our whole family. I really appreciate the respect that is given to children and parents, the family oriented atmosphere, and the sensitivities to the changing needs of each child as they learn and grow. I clearly see the positive influence on my daughter's emotional, social, and intellectual development. And it's so comforting to know that
