The NJAO sponsors three scientific sessions each year to help you maintain your continuing education credits as required by the state. Featuring up-to-date clinical and technical information, we bring together recognized experts in orthodontics and related scientific areas along with practice management professionals to help every member of our organization to be successful.
Part of our responsibility as professionals and as an organization is to help welcome and orient new members of the profession. We want to help them take pride in the profession as much as we do. We want them to succeed in providing the best treatment for the health and welfare of the public. And we want them to participate in organized orthodontics.
One of the responsibilities we have in modern society is to push forward on the leading edge of thought. We make the world a better place by taking what has been given to us by our predecessors (family, culture, profession) and add to it with new creative thought and action. Orthodontics is a special branch of dentistry that involves straightening teeth and altering bone growth for proper jaw alignment. It is also called "dentofacial orthopedics." For optimum chewing, your teeth should fit together like gears meshing in a machine. When your teeth and jaws do not meet correctly, it is called a "malocclusion, " or bad bite.
