Defender Nava was born and raised in a poor neighborhood in Santa Paula. His parents were hard working farm workers who taught him never to judge anyone by their mistakes. In 2008, at age 24, he became one of the youngest attorneys in the county and went on to successfully defend thousands of clients facing felonies and misdemeanors.
Many of the jury trials won by Defender Nava are DUIs involving drugs and alcohol. Many of his colleagues refer to him as "The DUI king." He has taught many new attorneys how to successfully try DUIs. Even police officers have told him that they would hire him if they got arrested for a DUI. Prosecutors have dismissed DUI cases where Defender Nava was the attorney of record.
Defender Nava has spent years advocating for juveniles. He has defended hundreds of juveniles facing criminal charges like DUI, criminal threats, lewd conduct, assault and battery, drug use, drug sales, drug possession, domestic violence, and many more. Joaquin was a coworker of mine in the Public Defender's office and was one of the smartest, toughest lawyers we had. Although I'm bummed he left, he's who I refer all my friends and family to who don't qualify for the PD's office or who need a little more handholding than a public defender can provide.
