At Children's Garden, we strive to build relationships and strengthen connections - between one child and another, between ourselves and the children in our care, between children and their families, between children and the natural world, and between ourselves and others who might look different, speak differently, or come from far away.
Daily we search for connections between the two strong educational traditions - that of Maria Montessori and her followers, and the educational philosophy developed by the early childhood programs in Reggio Emilia, Italy. We believe our study of these two philosophies has allowed us to use somewhat different vocabulary to describe similar phenomena.

Children's Garden Montessori School is a nurturing community of children, families and teachers, guided by the Montessori philosophy and influenced by the Reggio philosophy that educates young children and inspires a life-long love of learning. We envision generations of responsive, aware individuals prepared and empowered to nurture and shape our world.
Children's Garden began in 1972 as a parent co-operative preschool. Bobbie Hobbs, Judy Ward, Jane Jacobs, Patti Egloff, and Ronnie Hegel, worked together to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment for their own children. Excited by the progress they observed in their children, they then expanded their program to accept other children and opened a Montessori preschool at 444 Detroit Street in 1974.
Mission: To create a nurturing community-guided by both Montessori and Reggio philosophies-that educates young children and inspires a life-long love of learning. Vision: Generations of responsive, aware individuals prepared and empowered to nurture and shape our world. A diverse and inclusive community that honors and respects the similarities and differences in people, clutures, and ideas.
