Services
Our veterinary team values, above-all, the relationships we form with our clients and with each other. We're here to support your pet's long-term health and be a partner to you in providing them the best and most modern veterinary services and technologies. There's a reason we've been voted 'the best' in the Brainerd Lakes!
Lakeland Veterinary Hospital has been serving the Brainerd Lakes Region for more than 40 years. Our current veterinary medical facility has been our home-base since the year 2000, when it was built by local architects for the specific purpose of being a functional and modern veterinary practice. Our hospital owner and director, Dr. Deb Piepgras, was born and raised in the area, and attended Brainerd High School.
We're proud of going above to acquire optional accreditations and certifications in the veterinary industry. Your pets deserve the best veterinary care available! If there are tactics we can adopt, or systems we can improve, we want the leading veterinary institutions to tell us, so we can stay on the leading-edge of veterinary excellence.
Our veterinarians are trained to provide care for your pets through every stage of their life and medical need. At our facility, you can be sure that your pet is well taken-care of, including during surgical procedures, examinations and vaccinations, diagnostics, and more. Furthermore, if you are going on vacation and need a place for your pet to stay, our boarding facility is open and equipped with spacious kennels and condos.
Preventative care and regular wellness exams allow your pet's veterinarian to monitor their health and catch diseases in their earliest stages. Being able to catch any potential ailments as soon as possible is helpful for many reasons; when caught early, diseases are easier and cheaper to treat, and your pet can be saved from needless suffering.

The staff here as always treated my animals like they were their own family. To the extent that recently I had to put my baby down because of cancer and I requested his primary doctor to do it and not the doctor who diagnosed him because with how his primary doctor treated him like her own family I felt she should have been able to say goodbye to him too, I was sad to put her through putting an animal down but wanted her to see him one last time too.
They also had a special room to say goodbye to him in which made it more comfortable for my dog in is final moments not to mention after it was all

We have brought our dog here multiple times in emergency situations. We are normally treated well, we’ve had some issues with them finding her account after you’ve been there multiple times which was frustrating. Prices just seem overly high. We’ve also done tons and tons of testing here to find out the medical issues with our dog and never get results. Overall we trust them with our pets but wish prices could be cheaper.

The team at Lakeland are the best! My Boston Terrier has been having issues and they were very thorough in his examination, X-rays, and testing to get him the proper prognosis. I also board my dogs here frequently. My dogs are like my children so I love knowing they’re entrusted in the best care while I’m gone!

The service we received at Lakeland was top-notch. Our three little furballs have never been in such capable hands. From the minute you walk in and are greeted by the receptionists, to the exam rooms with doctors and the techs, our pups were treated in the most professional and caring way. You can just seriously tell these people are here because they love what they do. We are so happy and grateful to the entire team for making us feel like family.

They did not have to sedate my cat for shaving, but noted he did not behave in the bath, so no more bath. I am glad someplace in Baxter shaves cats for the summer. Quick service and booking on this last experience, but am told this is a popular spot sometimes requiring months in advance for a kitty shave. Here is a photo of my lion saying thanks for the great service.

We are only up here for the summers, and previously went to a different animal hospital (for 4 summers) for our (3) cat's prescriptions. Every time I went in there, I had to explain who I was. I went to LVH when the other place was going to make me wait 2 weeks for an appointment. When I brought my cat in to LVH, I was greeted BY NAME. The tech, Kathy, listened, responded to and wrote down everything I said. Dr. Kelly was the kindest, gentlest vet to ever handle any of my pets, and she did a wonderful, thorough job with diagnosis and treatment. After 4 years of feeling like an outsider and

I'm disappointed that I have to give one star because if I could go negative, I would. Lakeland Vet is very accommodating in terms of time, but that is the only positive I have. They up charge EVERYTHING on all their services and micro charge by dissecting their process and creating individual charges for one procedure. I brought my dog in for a urinalysis, they charged $30+ for the urinalysis and the cystocentesis-$70 which is basically how they collect the urine. On top of that they tried to talk me into doing X-rays, which was an additional $100, for precautionary reasons. They then prescribed

Caring, courteous, competent. My dog needed a doctor to treat an ongoing health condition while we were traveling in the Brainerd area. I'm glad I found Lakeland. They were willing to consult with my vet in Illinois to make sure he received the proper treatment, and it was less expensive than IL too. During my visit I saw many dogs coming and going from the kennel area, so it seems a popular choice for boarding as well.

Was fairly disappointed in the after-hours/emergency care, poor medication directions (that even other Vets looked at the notes and couldn't make heads or tails of either) and a general sense of "they're doing us a favor" made this expensive trip a regret and ineffective.
Didn't offer any effective palliative care, and I found better emergency services in Brainerd/Baxter at the Animal Care Center, located behind Home Depot. You can reach them at (218) 822-6000. If you are currently more North or East of Brainerd/Baxter, I recommend the Crosslake Vet Hostpital - they can
