California law treats domestic violence uniquely because it involves family members. The crime is treated as specialized assault and can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony. Though less serious than felonies, misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail. When domestic violence is charged as assault, longer prison sentences are a possibility.

I was referred to add Welbourn by a judge friend of mine. Ed used different strategies at different points in the process leading up to trial. At preliminary hearing he deftly revealed the officer’s inconsistencies and lies resulting in dismissal of a felony count. Throughout the stressful 2+ years, Ed was 100% professional, responsive, and cool which helped me maintain my cool and keep the faith. At all times, he kept my expectations realistic. I would recommend Ed to anyone facing criminal charges.

Ed and his team are awesome. My wife and I found ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time involved in an extremely unlucky accident. The process was long, emotional, and stressful for us (not to Ed's team's fault) where we found ourselves facing a misdemeanor. Ed worked extremely hard for us with his experience and relationships and was able to get the misdemeanor reduced to some minimal community service that has allowed us to move forward. Ed really makes you feel like you are his only Client and he is highly recommended by us. You cannot go wrong here.

My Experience with Ed was Excellent to say the least! After finding myself in a very stressful and sticky situation with my future on the line, I could not be happier that I trusted leaving my fate in his hands ! He was very straightforward about the whole ordeal, he tells it to you like it is. No fluff. He got both of my felony charges dismissed and I can now move forward with my life and prosper like I’m supposed to! If you’re trying to make a decision I would Highly Recommend Ed.
Shout out to Ed, Thank you again !!

Ed is amazing. He was on top of everything through out the process. He met with us in person even though a phone call would’ve suffice, just to give us hope and peace of mind. I think when times were dark, him going out of his way even though there’s nothing more to do except to wait, meant a lot. He’s not the typical 8 to 5 lawyer. He is available 7 days a week and even met us the first night after hours (even before fees / retainer was discussed).

It was ironic how i met my current attorney, Mr. Ed Welbourn. I visited my previous attorney’s old office to follow up on my misdemeanor case who I found out had retired several months prior to my visit.
As the result, I was introduced to Ed who happen to be available in the office. He greeted me to his office, we discussed my frustration with my case and struggle I had experienced with probation department who made my life nightmarish for months.
It’s no exaggeration to say he looked up my case, reviewed it, researched applicable sources and within thirty (30) minutes he found the flaw in

Ed and his team are top notch professionals. I was impressed by both their skill, efficiency, and attention to detail. My matter was not a large one but Ed never treated it that way. He always took the time to explain the process, next steps, and give recommendations as to the best way forward. In an arena where I was clearly out of my depth, Ed and his team pulled me into the boat, dried me off, and quickly made it clear I was in very good, and very capable, hands.
