As a 32 year law enforcement veteran I have learned a great deal of useful self defense techniques at Ellis County Martial Arts that can be used by everyone. It is a family friendly environment as well. I highly recommend it to others interested in learning self defense. I am recommending that if anyone is looking for a place to bring their children to learn karate, THIS IS THE PLACE.
I am more than happy with Mr. Richard Ray and his teaching. My son looks forward to karate practice every week. Worth the time and money. Ellis County Martial Arts was founded in 1995 by Mr. Richard Ray. Ray Sensei is an eighth degree black belt with over 35 years of training and teaching experience.

What is karate? Karate is a Japanese word which means "empty hand". While originally used to describe the art founded by Gichin Funakoshi, it is now generically used to describe martial arts styles that primarily use kicks and strikes. Some karate schools also teach joint locks and traditional weapons as part of their curriculum.
Private lessons are available by appointment for students who would like to reach their potential faster. Defensive Tactics training is available for individuals or small groups who need immediate skills for high-threat situations. Getting started in martial arts training is easy - you do not need to be in great shape, nor do you need any special equipment.
