Services
Our eyes are not only the window to the soul but the window to what can be going on in our bodies. The eye is the only place in the body a doctor can view a bare artery, nerve, and vein without the need for a surgical procedure. This enables your eye doctor to not only diagnose eye conditions and perform eye surgery but sometimes detect other health problems elsewhere in your body.
Dr. David Westrich, the founder of our practice, was the first full-time retinal surgeon in this area. In 1991 he founded Cape Retinal Surgery Center which solely treated conditions of the retina, vitreous, and macula (the back part of the eye). Dr. Shawn Parker was the first ophthalmologist to perform LASIK surgery in this area.

I find LASIK surgery so powerful! For someone who has worn glasses and contact lenses for most of their life, then all of a sudden to one day be able to wake up and see, I think it's a spectacular experience! D. Shawn Parker, MD, FACS, a Kentucky native, settled in Cape Girardeau at Eye Care Specialists in 1998 following his corneal and refractive fellowship in Indiana.
I enjoy being able to perform cataract surgery and give my patients the wonderful vision they may not have enjoyed in years. The gratitude they show me, even years later, is very humbling. Brad Stuckenschneider, MD, FACS moved to the Poplar Bluff, Mo. area in 1998 after five years of practice in St. Louis.
