Hi, I'm Dr. Sophia Scheffel, L.Ac, owner of Diablo Acupuncture in Lafayette. People's second question, after how does acupuncture work, is often how did you become interested in acupuncture? A long slow journey and a lot of twists along the way. At a young age, I was the kid that when people asked "what do you want to when you grow up?"
Acupuncture is a complete system of medicine looking at the whole person to find the root of disease. The goal with acupuncture is to bring the state of health back into balance, or homeostasis, through a series of treatments and then to maintain this balance with regular or seasonal "tune-ups." Think of acupuncture as like going to the gym - you can't just go once and expect the body to shift overnight.

Sophia is awesome and knows her craft immensely. After getting to know my health problems and understanding my needs, Sophia worked her magic and within three sessions. I’ve seen and feel such great progress already and look forward to more visits. Sophia has done what doctors have never been able to achieve. My ongoing wrist pain (caused by cyst) is almost gone. I finally feel normal again. Sophia also has fantastic advise on nutrition that is helping me with so many other health concerns.

I started coming to Dr. Scheffel in 2017 for a pinched nerve in my right shoulder. Dr. Scheffel is knowledgeable, thoughtful and thorough. I've also had her work on a tummy issue that I picked up in Honduras and soft tissue injuries from a car accident. Now I see Dr. Scheffel for preventative maintenance 😊

Sophia Scheffer listens carefully to you. Her treatments respond to your particular concerns, approaching them from a holistic perspective, working on resolving your urgent needs and at the same time helping you to achieve the balance and strength to face any new challenges. I went to her clinic to initially resolve back pain issues and now I get regular sessions to keep myself in good balance. Highly recommended!!!

What an amazing acupuncturist! I had a sprained ankle from jogging and Sophia’s acupuncture techniques really helped reduce the swelling and pain I had. She is so knowledgeable, and gave me great advice for healing my ankle. Her office has a really nice and relaxing vibe, which helps calms the nerves if you don’t know what to expect with acupuncture. She made me feel at ease and the whole process was just great. I highly recommend Diablo Acupuncture!
