Jack was so kind when we got locked out of our house. He helped quickly and when we eventually got in ourselves, despite being on his way, didn't charge us. 1000000% would use again when us idiots lock ourselves out again.

I called this service on a Sunday to have a lock changed on a security door in my house as I had been robbed the night before. They charged $700, outrageous, so I was robbed twice in 24 hours. They did not say so in the beginning, the guy kept saying he needed parts or something.
These people are just out and out crooks.

I am new to the neighborhood and needed hardware. I enjoyed the shop because it has an old main street hardware store ambiance. It has more than one can imagine just by walking the aisles. The staff was nice. The owner is the owner. He is very knowledgable. I will shop there again for my needs.

These guys were great. They came by the same day. The guy that answered the phones was super nice. And, they were way cheaper than some of the other places I called (hope they don't read this and change that). Excellent service.

I have been to this hardware store only four or five times, but that's over a period of ten years, which gives me a long term view of the quality of their service.

It's everything you could ask for in a small neighborhood store. The owner and his helper are knowledgeable, know their inventory, are polite and helpful.

I have never been disappointed. If they don't have what I need, they tell me how I can obtain the item. I've always gone to have work done on my Baldwin deadbolts, a lengthy process, so I've had many opportunities to watch interactions with other customers

For those people who complained about the service, you must not be from this area, or haven't lived in the area very long. If you want somebody who will "service" you, go to Home Depot. They already have kneepads on.

Capital Locksmith has gotten me out of numerous jams. It's a neighborhood hardware store. It doesn't claim to be anything more than that. If they have what you need, awesome. They'll find it from their rows of storage and crap for you. If they don't have it, they'll tell you where you can get it. The prices are cheap, the place is locally owned

I recently moved into the neighborhood of Petworth and I am very luck to have Capital Locksmith/Hardware Store across the street from my apartment. They always seem to figure out an answer to my question(s) and have been very helpful in explaining how to use the materials I purchase. Robert gave me great advice regarding anchors I was looking for when bolting my bookcases to the wall and Jack recently came up with some inventive way of bolting my milk crate to the back of my bicycle. Even though the items I bought were not big ticket/pricey, they took the time to help me problem solve and

I experienced the Hyde customer service of this Jekyll and Hyde store. The guy behind the desk borders on rude with every gesture, and, given his behavior, he must be either stupid or dishonest or both.

I went into the store with a set of locks to be rekeyed. Very fast, nice, and knowledgable. For other hardware, the store is a bit dark and small, but for that random thing, it very well might be packed into a corner, particularly items unique to the older houses in the area (like old keyhole locks ready to cut?!).

Absolutely terrible service. Im thinking NO WAY could these other reviews have had the same guy who showed up an hour and a half late to my house and half did the job
because he said he didnt have all the tools he needed. When I asked if he could come back the next day to finish he told me "yes but you know that will be an extra service fee". Are you kidding?! If he hadnt already started dismantling my locks I would have kicked him out of my house.

This is only a review of the services, not the retail. Before yesterday, we had a 5-key entry system: storm door, front door, back door, back security door, back gate. It was a nightmare. And on top of it all, each door required a key in and a key out (read: on my than one occasion, I found myself locked inside the house--not so good in an emergency, right?).

Enter Capital Locksmith. An hour and $350 later, we had one key and switch bolts in every door. Ah, now I can rest easy!

The missing star is for a late arrival and no notice. But the service more than made up for it!!

This is actually a hardware store that provides locksmith and security services. The place has saved my day many times. I need something while I'm in the middle of doing a job. First thing that comes to my mind is Home Depot Oh My God. Then I remember the hardware store just south of the Petworth Metro Station at the intersection of Georgia and New Hampshire Avenue, NW. And I wonder: "Is it open?" They don't keep predictable hours so far as I can tell but almost always when I've needed them to be open they are.

You go inside and it is dark with rows of shelves and shelves
