The St. James Child Development Center was established in 1981 in downtown Portland. Our child care center provides a safe and secure environment for over 120 children ages six weeks through kindergarten. We are committed to providing a fun-filled, rewarding program that balances each child's intellectual, physical, social, creative and emotional needs.
Our staff has a very low turnover rate, and many of our teachers have been with us for years and years. Children are encouraged to be involved with the environment and learn from it. Teachers work to provide an ever changing and wide variety of activities within this setting. At each age level, themes ignite curiosity and allow children to explore their many talents.

St. James is where you want your child to be! Our daughter attended SJCDC for nearly two years and we were very pleased with her experience. It says a lot when your child is excited to go to "school" and sad to leave. The Infant/Mobile team was sweet and nurturing to our baby girl and super kind to my wife and me. This trend carried on all they way to Toddler Twos. All of the teachers are professional, pleasant, and happy to provide updates on your child's progress. Patrick is a superb director. He's straight forward but also accommodating, which was very much appreciated during the early COVID19

St. James is a truly amazing place. For the past six years we have had our three children there since they were infants and it has been a wonderful experience. The caregivers are patient, kind and loving and our children have flourished there. It is like a family and we feel so fortunate to have found it. St. James impacted us in so many positive ways - I can never really thank them enough.

Excellent staff and infrastructure. My daughter is 2.5 years old. She had never been to a day care before so we were really worried about how would she adjust. The teachers(Ms.Linda and Ms.Nancy) have done a wonderful job with her. They are so kind and approachable. I can't thank them enough.😊 I highly recommend St.James child development center.

Words cannot express how grateful we have been to have St James to care for our son. We were initially drawn to St James because many of the people who work there have been at St James for years and years ... decades for more than a few. When I was pregnant with my first baby the thought of leaving him at daycare seemed so sad. I had heard that many daycare centers have high turnover rates, and that it was stressful for small children to have changes like that in who is around to take care of them. We toured St James and the warmth and love and steadfast connections between the women in Infants

I can't recommend St. James enough! We have been apart of the St. James family for nearly 7 years. Both of our kids have been there since they were 4-months old. Our oldest attended all the way through the Kindergarten program (Noelle is the best) and she was setup so well for 1st grade. Patrick leads such a great program and all of the teachers are engaging and very attentive to the children. Many of the teachers have been there since we started (and long before we arrived) so we have been able to build great relationships with them and we have been impressed with each and every one of them. We started our daughter at St. James at 7 months in the "mobiles" room. She loved the kids and the teachers. Can't say enough about how great the teachers are -- very kind, and very focused on the babies and their needs. They helped us through difficult separation anxiety issues, and serious diaper rash outbreaks. The food they provide is healthy and tasty (and convenient). The parking out front made it very easy to do quick picks ups/drop offs. The only downside here is that it's a bigger daycare -- lots of kids, lots of noise, a little bit of an institutional feel. Then again, our daughter loved

It was hard to drop off our little guy for the first time, but everyone there--from Patrick (the director) to Suzanne, Dana, and Rosa made us feel at home immediately, even providing me some much needed Kleenex. The staff is always kind, professional, and attentive. I feel respected, listened to, and often receive very helpful advice from the women in the infant room. The community of parents, too, is a pleasure.

Though my child has only been at St. James for about 6 months, when my husband and I went for our first tour over a year ago we knew immediately it was the best daycare around. The director, Patrick, was very friendly and had an answer for all our anxious new-parents-to-be questions. Since then, we have gotten daily confirmation that we made the right choice with St. James. First and foremost is the staff- they are all wonderful. I don't know how they managed to find so many genuinely nice, caring people to work there, but they did and since my first day leaving my baby behind while I returned

We have had two children attend the child development center, and have enjoyed an amazing experience. Being first time parents, we were faced with the daunting job of finding a special place for our newborn. St. James definitely rose to our standards, and frequently exceeded expectations with that little something extra. The longevity and dedication of staff makes this center a standout. The teachers are knowledgable and greet you each day with a warm smile. Additionally, the director, Patrick, was incredibly helpful during our transition back to work easing our fears and addressing parenting questions

My daughter attended St. James from 3 months old to 3 years old. I can not say enough great things about this school! I have an older son that had attended a more corporate center, so I do have another experience to compare it to. The teachers at St. James are genuine and really take great care of the children. The staff is also flexible which is really important for a busy working mom. I wish there was more I could do for St. James besides write a google review to let them know how much I appreciate all they did for our family. If I ever win the lottery, I would give all the teachers a bonus!
