We had employed Russ Smith Construction in the winter of 2019 to remodel a cabin. The contract required a deposit to be deducted from the final cost of the project, which per the contract, was to begin by Summer of 2019. When Fall arrived and the project had NOT begun we cancelled our contract with this builder only to hear from him that the deposit would NOT be refunded as he felt he had put significant effort into gathering quotes for the projects. We hired a lawyer to review the contract and were told he had no legal right to the deposit but the court costs of a suit would be more than the deposit
