No matter how you spell it - barbeque, barbecue, bbq, or bar-b-que, a visit to the Tennessee Valley area just isn't complete until you've sat down for some authentic southern style cooking you get at Greenbrier Restaurant. Whether you are a casual diner or a barbecue expert, you are sure to delight in Greenbrier Restaurant's selection of tender and juicy pork, ribs, chicken or ham.
At first, the primitive appeal of fire and meat may have been enough to wet our appetites for barbecued foods, but as our culinary sophistication levels have grown, so too have our ideas about barbecue. Regional differences abound, flavorful sauce recipes evolve, and so do interpretations of the casual and contemporary barbecue experience.

The restaurant building you are now sitting in was built in 1952 by Jack Webb as a take out only, one room structure. Jack built the building by hand, and later built some of the tables you are now eating on. It has been remodeled and enlarged several times, the last time by the present owners, the Evans family.
We are excited for Cody Smith and Lindsey Thornton who celebrated their wedding rehearsal dinner with us in September. We here at Old Greenbrier Restaurant love to celebrate the people that are part of our restaurant family. Today we are celebrating Mary Wyle as she joined us to celebrate her 100th Birthday!
Multiple speakers will be presenting and all Alabama fans are welcome to come. Dinner will start at 5:00pm and the presentations will be made from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. We hope to see you there. Greenbrier Restaurant will be matching the tips that the waitresses make all day long. Come enjoy a great meal, be generous taking care of your server to support our service men in North Alabama!

Called to make reservations for a Saturday night party of 4 because we didn't want to wait, was seated 15 minutes before our reservation time, had quite a few larger parties & a few couples but wasn't "packed". Everyone greeted us and were very friendly, our server was friendly , the whole dining experience was a little longer than I expected, appetizers of meatballs, shrimp , the spinach dip was my favorite. Â The steaks were delicious, cowboy ribeye for 2 is huge, filet was cooked perfectly & was fabulous, side dishes were satisfactory . The restaurant is cozy &

About 20 years ago I was introduced to Greenbrier barbecue and Alabama white sauce for the 1st time. This visit, due to logistics, was the 1st time I've been back since then and I must say, it's just as good now as it was then. I arrived for an early lunch and was promptly greeted by a server and sat down. Since it had been a while I wanted to try a sample of everything so I got the sample platter with pork and chicken. I was served hush puppies as an appetizer and there were a handful of sauces on the table to enjoy them with. Barbecue sauce, Alabama white sauce, tartar sauce and the ketchup.

Despite all the external issues going on around it (construction), this place continues to thrive. Great BBQ and served with delicious Hush Puppies from heaven! Price is extremely competitive and the portions are rather hefty. The picture provided shows my 'small' pulled BBQ plate with sliced tomatoes and slaw. I like food, but I could not finish it all! Enjoy. Best.

I passed this place on my way to work and it looked liked the type of place I seek out. I couldn't tell what the name was because it's badly worn from the Coca-Cola sign out front. I'm sure the locals know the name. It's been there forever.
I had the large pulled pork with a sweet potato and slaw. And of course, the complimentary basket + of hush puppies.
Like I said, these are the kinds of restaurants I seek out. I'm ready to go back and try the ribs, chicken, or fish.

OldGreenbrier was recommended by a friend who had previously lived in Huntsville. I have been here for 5 months and only wish I had known about this place sooner. The staff was accommodating to my daughter who… was a picky eater, they were fast, friendly and the food was very good. Whether you wanted seafood or smoked meats there was something for everyone. Greenbrier was established In the 1950's and is steeped in history. Everyone from Elvis Presley to John Glenn has eaten there, so you know it has to be good. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Huntsville area

Great dinner value, was here 20 plus years ago when last here. Still great Q, still great service, the ladies are sweet as pie. No today we went to metro diner, same price 11.95 for chicken pot pie as yesterdays bbq with food to bring to the hotel.
The hushpuppies were lite puffs of heaven. They beat those gut bombs we get in south carolina.

Good food. I got the fried shrimp, fries, coleslaw, and a sweet tea. My husband got a pork sandwich with fries and a water. Staff was friendly and service was good. The reason I gave this restaurant a 3 out of 5 is because they haven a health score of 81. This rating was kind of hidden for customers to see. I'm curious to know why their score was so low. Food was good but not memorable.

OMG! This place is a hidden treasure, if you are lucky enough to find the Greenbrier Restaurant, go and enjoy.
Upon being greeted and seated we were presented with a fresh basket of hot hush puppies, our drink order was taken as we looked through the pretty extensive menu.
We ordered a dozen fried oysters as an appetizer and 2 barbecue plates for lunch. When our oysters arrived we realized we may have over ordered. The plate of oysters was huge and also very tasty, then our waitress returned and refilled the basket of hush puppies again.
About that time our barbecue plates came, the pork

Well, tried this place because we were looking for some local food. The restaurant seems to be really lost in the country side (I mean, away from Madison downtown), which makes it so typical and so local. People and waiters are so nice and friendly, loved the atmosphere. Apparently was built in 1952, which is crazy!!
The food was pretty good, my wife had pulled pork and I had the ribs. Ribs were fried and pretty greasy but for once, I did not mind at all trying something new! The hush puppies are so delicious (the best ones we ever had, so we were not able to stop), fresh coleslaw really good,

I've been coming to the Huntsville area for work for many years. As a super foodie and well traveled engineer to m always on the lookout for fantastic food finds. Equally I'm interested in seeing as much of America as I can. My clients told me about the Greenbrier a few years ago, I've had several visits here. I am not a big fan of their food but by no means am I condemning it. It's the absolute southern charm and old school Americana that is the draw. I've enjoyed the BBQ, chicken and Catfish. The hush puppies are really great and the best part is they are complimentary

Hole in the wall off the beaten path kind of diner/restaurant. Friendliest staff and people I've met while in Alabama. Service was quick and friendly. Stopped in on a Monday evening and it wasn't too crowded at all. It was a small no frills type place with plenty of parking.
I had a small order of catfish.
Small Catfish Meal: Came with a side (I had the sweet potato), cole slaw, and catfish. They bring you some raw sugar in a packet, a small serving of cinnamon, and butter to season/load up your sweet potato on your own. Others in my party got a the baked potato that came with a packet

The absolute best hush puppies in the world! I will put Old Greenbrier Restaurant's hush puppies up against any hush puppy, anywhere, anytime....bring it on! I could go there just to eat the hush puppies. Oh, and the rest of their food is pretty good too!
I have been coming to the Old Greenbrier for over 3 decades. The food is outstanding! Good fried food and BBQ. I rank their food in the following order:
1. Hush Puppies
2. Sweet Tea (Yes, in the South, Sweet Tea is considered a food)
3. Catfish
4. Chicken
5. BBQ
Now, all of their food is good because 5th place at Old Greenbrier is
