Whether you suffer from chronic pain, are healing from a recent injury, have caught a cold, need help managing the side effects of chemotherapy, or just want to de-stress, Kaz can help you with his unique combination of expertise in Japanese acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine, therapeutic bodywork, and herbal medicine-making.
Services
The form of acupuncture you will encounter in a session with Kaz is quite unlike most acupuncture. Most acupuncturists spend 5-15 minutes with each patient, then insert some needles and leave the room. Kaz spends an entire hour with you, constantly assessing the state of your muscles, channels, and organs during the treatment and using a needle one point at a time, as necessary.
If you are in pain, or stressed, or ill, there will always be parts of your body that are tight and sensitive. Even when we are feeling healthy, the movements of daily life - hauling our bodies around, holding our heads up, driving, sitting at a desk or carrying children - can cause muscular tension.
In addition to acupuncture and bodywork, Kaz sometimes incorporates other therapies into his treatments. Moxibustion, or moxa, refers to a type of heat therapy in which burning mugwort herb is placed on the body to provide deep penetrating heat. Scraping, also known as gua sha, is a vigorous technique in which the skin is moistened with oil and then scraped with a tool made out of water buffalo horn, wood, or stone.
While acupuncture and bodywork excel at treating the body's musculoskeletal framework, they address the internal organs only indirectly, via the channel/organ network.

Herbs treat the internal organs and tissues more directly, reaching them via the digestive, circulatory, and various excretory systems (for instance, certain herbal components are recognized by the body as non-food, and in their excretion by the kidneys and bladder can kill microbes causing urinary tract infections).
Sessions run an hour or a little longer. Please wear loose-fitting clothes that can easily be rolled up past the elbows and knees. Most treatments include some bodywork and acupuncture. Herbs will be prescribed if this seems appropriate. Patients may request massage-only or herbs-only sessions (acupuncture treatments always include bodywork as an integral part of diagnosis and treatment).

I've seen several (five) acupuncturists over the years. Kaz is hands down my favorite. I've been seeing him for many years now and can't recommend him enough. Kaz has a unique approach to acupuncture that I've found more effective and healing than anyone else.

Most acupuncturists have a chat with you, take your pulses, and insert needles. Kaz has the chat and checks pulses, but as he works with you he incorporates touch (was he ever a masseuse? I can't remember, he's got great hands and massage technique!), sometimes hot stones or a hot blanket, and does very gentle

I have been a patient of Kaz's since I had ovarian cancer in 2007. I see him every week I can. What first impressed me was that he did, I think it is called, Japanese Acupuncture. That means he uses a special needle that he does NOT insert, just holds on the point. While he does do regular acupuncture on me, he also uses the Japanese method which I appreciate so much.

He is also a great herbalist and has many mixtures for many problems. He sells by donation so that really helps.

He is a very sensitive, caring person. He has helped me a lot. He comes to Monterey on Fridays and works at Pacific
