Orphan Computers
Objective 1: At Orphan Computers we are dedicated to combating the crisis of the abandonment of surplus computers. The regrettably needless and improvident end of these computers at the bottom of our community landfills is shameful. We provide these unfortunate computers with exceptional care at our shelter facility located at 3758 W.Broadway in Robbinsdale, where they are housed until they can be matched and placed with suitable adoptive users.

Objective 2: To provide a responsible means for users to relinquish and recycle their unfashionable surplus computers in a secure and economic manner. Objective 3: To offer education and assessments of the realistic needs of prospective users, matching them with a reasonable level of technology and providing them with an alternative and economical means to computer ownership.

It is further estimated that over 45% of these contain some level of confidential information. Researching that premise, two students of MIT's Laboratory of Computer Science purchased 158 drives on Line and from swap meets, on which they were able to retrieve over 5000 credit card numbers, medical reports, detailed financial information, as well as gigabytes of personal email.
Our young men and women, and some not so young, who are deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq and other parts of the world where they are in Harms Way can not see your wrist band, the ribbon on your car or the Stars and Stripes flying from your home. But a letter or package from you; that is something they can see.
Don't count yourself out. We like to be flexible and if your business is one which provides a service which can be performed without regard to geographical considerations, please feel free to make a submission. We will gladly review any submission to determine if it would be an appropriate listing.

I brought my computer in due to it continually shutting down due to what it said was a power surge. It turned out that it had been over heating and the motherboard was fried. In the process of the investigation he also found out that my hard drive was in the process of becoming corrupted.
He didn't have anything in stock that could replace what I had but he helped me shop online to find the cheapest solution for me and then transferred everything from my corrupted hard drive to the new computer.
Everything is working great now and if he hadn't have gone above and beyond I probably would have

I've used Orphan Computers three times and have had nothing but a fantastic experience. Price is fair, he takes time to explain everything he has done, works fast and I would definitely recommend to anyone whether you are an experienced computer user or novice.

When I need assistance with my PC, I go to Blair at Orphan Computers. He is an honest owner. I watched him work with a customer that was not very PC savvy. Blair is patient, takes his technical knowledge and explains it in a way that all can understand. He is customer focused!

What I like most about Blair is he is relationship focused. I've worked with him on and off for about three years now. He doesn't look for how to make a buck. He looks to make friends.

My external hard drive crashed. I brought it to Blair at Orphan and he was able to recover EVERYTHING! My old HP Notebook was running slowly. Blair cleaned it up and had it running like new again. GREAT!

I thought I was bringing my computer to someone that could repair or replace parts if needed. Instead, after not hearing from Blair for over a day I called him to get status on the repair only to find out that I had to go to Microcenter to buy a hard drive to deliver to him to replace my old one. One would think that a computer repair shop woud have some standard parts on site or would be able to get them themselves, instead of sending the customer out shopping for it.
Then, after another day of not hearing from Blair, I called for an update only to find out he had no idea why my computer still

I have never met a more honest business owner than Blair with Orphan. He has fixed the unfixable at least four times for me. I will never go anywhere else. He fixed my son's drawing tablet, he customized an old laptop so I could read the trouble codes on my car. Recently he built a desktop for my business and optimized my existing desktop so it runs great. I guarantee that you will not find a more honest and customer focused technican than Blair. I will never go anywhere else.

Woke up to the spinning wheel of death on our HP laptop computer...tried to do the usual to get things going but no success. Orphan Computers came highly recommended so we went in with 2 computers. Spinning wheel of death and baby pink (older netbook) with bad screen we haven't used in a year or so. Owner of Orphan was courteous and helped us out on the spot. One hour later computer is fixed, trouble shooting we can do on our own learned for the future. Also, baby computer diagnosed, part ordered...being fixed. All this for around $100. I would highly suggest giving this local business a try. When

My pc was running slow. I had a quad core processor and was only seeing 1 core in total. I took the pc in to the Shop. I explained what the problem was. In less a day Blair (owner) was able to look at it and tell me the problem. I have my pc seeing all the cores and running faster than ever.
I am able to contact him and get suggestions which most shops won't do or they charge you for and it could be a flip of a button.
