Services
We were located on Highway 101 in Solana Beach, and back then, we were a small, humble restaurant. At the time, it was the first Japanese restaurant in North County San Diego. Back then, the Japanese community was very small and sushi chefs were nonexistent. So David Song, father of the present owner Charlie Song, took the initiative - he traveled to Japan to recruit sushi chefs!
A chef driven meal where the customer may directly communicate with the chef can be a truly exquisite experience. Our sushi bar is one of the largest in San Diego along with multiple master chefs. Our chefs are trained to excel in Omakase so if you're open minded, do not hesitate to ask your chef. Please inquire with the host to be paired with best chef applicable to your style and needs.
Here at Samurai, we focus on the quality of the food. Watch one of our two highly experienced chefs, Ron or Rich, cook before your very eyes; have a nice chat with them too. We offer a wide array of gourmet dining options, ranging from chicken, to seafood, to steak - just take a peek at our Teppan Menu.

We tried the restaurant yesterday, admittedly with takeout
On the positive side the food was made quickly.
Overall the food had some significant flaws and I would not recommend:
1. The sushi rolls were both dried out, The dark dragon was OK. The spicy red dragon was terrible, to the point I worried that it had gone bad. It tasted bitter. Both characterized by no flavors
2. The ginger pork tasted OK but is was surprisingly overcooked for a Japanese restaurant and therefore very dry.
3. The tofu dish was average
The salads that came wit the entrees had lived a very long day and the sauce had

The hamachi kama is next level. The spicy tuna signature roll was also very exquisite!

Samurai is a mainstay for my family's special occasion dinners. A bit pricey but well worth it. Their Teppanyaki chefs are always great and put on a good show. Never to flashy but still entertaining. I highly recommend the Samurai special with fried rice!!

Excellent sushi restaurant. I feel so lucky to have them 2 mins from my house. They sushi is extremely fresh and flavourful. The soft shell crab 🦀 roll is one of my favorites. Their fried rice is also good and contains scallops I recommend you try it.

Been coming here forever and always great. Fun to do the Tepanyaki in back or just sit at the booths and order the boat (family combos). Good service and good food for reasonable prices. Chicken Teriyaki is my fave.
