A commercial transaction is essentially an agreement between two or more parties to enter into a business relationship that involves the exchange of items of value, either on a one-off basis (as in the case of a sale), or on an ongoing basis (as in the case of an investment in a business or a joint venture).

Litigation is the process of taking a case through court. The litigation or legal process is most common in civil lawsuits. In litigation, there is a plaintiff (one who brings the charge) and a defendant (one against whom the charge is brought). To litigate is to file a charge against someone and bring a case to court.
