Garden & Associates, LTD. was founded by Merrill Garden in 1947. Merrill graduated from Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He started Garden Construction as a design-builder of Quonset buildings. In 1948, Garden Engineering Service Inc. was formed to also serve the engineering and land surveying needs of public entities and private interests within Iowa.
Around 1960, Merrill Garden sold the construction portion of his company but continued with engineering and land surveying. At that time, there were three licensed engineers, two engineers-in-training, five technicians, a secretary, and a bookkeeper. Merrill Garden and his associates built the company and contributed to the development and growth of many communities and businesses throughout the state of Iowa for the next 23 years.
