While our process for building custom lots is very much the same as within a community, some initial steps must be taken to ensure a lot is the perfect fit for your home plan and budget.
River Bluffs is a private, gated community nested in the tall pines of Castle Hayne- just minutes north of Wilmington. The community features classic southern architecture reminiscent of homes found along riverbanks in historic Wilmington, Charleston, and Savannah. Homes will feature inviting front porches big enough for get-togethers with neighbors and architectural elements evocative of a bygone era.
Cottage Homes are the ideal style for sitting on a small lot. They are well-suited for the coastline, narrow urban lots or in a neighborhood of smaller traditional homes. Exteriors vary, often including front porches, columns, gable and hip roofs and attic dormers. Quaint details continue to the interior of the home offering a cozy inviting atmosphere with a fireplace as the focal point.
Minimum HERS Rating of 65, which means homes built by Herrington Homes are 35% more energy efficient than a standard new home. Herrington Homes are built "green" both for the good of the environment and for homeowner energy efficiencies. Each of our homes are built to exceed the building code, as well as adhering to the High Efficiency Residential Option, also known as the HERO code.

We had a tremendous experience building our first home with Herrington Homes! Mary and Craig Johnson are a superior team and run a high quality company -- he oversees the construction and she is the designer both for some of their plans and for selection of all materials, finishes, and colors. They have a very organized and detailed personalized manual that took us through every step of the process, and we liked their system where we picked everything out up front, prior to start of construction, which took a lot of pressure off us during the build process and avoided delays.
