A part of the Beaverdale Neighborhood for thirty five years, Michael's has been reborn as a bistro, featuring Michael's signature pizzas and our own ever changing creations and seasonal pizzas, all baked in hearthstone ovens. Whether you want to join us for lunch or dinner or meet your friends for beers and pizza by the slice, you are always welcome at Michael's.
Our pizza is the best in Des Moines, with our sausages and beef specially prepared by B & B Grocery, Meat & Deli on the South Side of Des Moines from Iowa raised animals. We use fresh vegetables, we make our own sauces as well as our own dressings and buy locally. Our wines are from Italy and we feature Romance Wines from Argentina, we also stock your favorite beers.

Services
If you grew up in Beaverdale, you grew up with Michael's Restaurant and you ate Michael's pizza. Michael Baier bought the Gin Mill right next to the VFW on Urbandale Avenue in 1974 and renamed it after, who else? Himself! He opened a restaurant and lounge, invited in the neighbors, and in 1992 he opened up Poor Michael's Pizza.
Garlic Cheese Bread - Rotella's Italian Bread loaf covered with garlic butter, parmesan, and mozzarella cheese. Served with marinara sauce. Spinach Artichoke Dip - Warm green spinach and artichoke dip topped with parmesan and goat cheese. Served with fresh oven baked pizza chips. Chicken Wings - 6 deep fried, crispy chicken wings served with celery sticks and your choice of ranch or blue cheese dressing.
Many restaurants, including Des Moines, purchase a gluten free partially cooked crust. At Michael's we make it from scratch using a proprietary recipe. If you have questions, ask Lindsay. Ordinarily we bake our pizza crust on hearth stones in our ovens but our gluten free pizzas are baked on pizza pans so there is no exposure to stray flour particles.

It probably has only a few hundred feet to it for dining space, but what it lacks in volume, it more than makes up for in taste and character.
This is a go-to for carry out or dine in (someday) and should be on every Beaverdale resident bucket list for great tasting pizza.
Thin crisp crust along with standard ingredients and an assortment of flavors found in boutique pizzerias allows this small pizza place to punch way above it's weight class.
Highly recommend.

LOVE there pizza !!!!! Best crust, wood fired! I tried the gluten free pizza , and that was good too . Homemade dressings, their ranch is especially wonderful . On Sunday's they have a great wing special . Good customer service as well . I don't eat out much, but Michael's is definitely a go to favorite for me !

I had a hard time deciding to write a review. Having read the reviews here I was looking forward to a great pizza. Unfortunately it was so so. The crust was nice and crispy and the sauce was nice. Somehow when it came together it was just a little off the mark. The service was great.
The price was little high. A small w/2 toppings was more than expected. The side salad was limp. Very skimpy for $4. I would not do that again. It had only 2 very thin slices of cucumber cut in half, I think to make it look like more.
I wish I could be positive but I was disappointed.

This is really good pizza, even on take away.
We've ordered the last two Sunday nights, and both times it was really superb.
We got the meat lovers. It's a great combination of meats scattered out nicely on the pie. The sauce is really tasty. The crust is great. It has a nice crispness to it without being to hard.
We got the spinach dip last night, and man, it was great, genuinely great. The pizza crust as the dipper was wonderful. The addition of a bit of goat cheese gives a tang to the dip. We will get it again!

One of those classic Beaverdale sites they've moved over here from their original location sometime ago. I still buy pizza from them to go usually and it's always home of the driver slice. A really nice couple runs the place and I believe are the owners and they really care about the quality of the pizza and care that you have a good Pizza. they also have a wonderful white sauce Pizza which I think is hard to get right but they do. They also have an individually size pizza which is wonderful if you just feel like pizza but don't want have a bunch of leftovers. If you want to stay

Michael's tastes and chews like authentic New York pizza, which I've had countless times. I'm not exaggerating when I make the comparison. This is one of the few, actually the only place that I'll get excited about plain cheese pizza.
The crust, sauce, cheese and spices on this pizza make toppings entirely unnecessary.

Some of the best pizza I have tasted in the dsm area! They care about their patrons and they menu prices are pretty competitive with the area. Not a ton of parking but it's in a strip mall. The owner was great and wanted to sincerely know how the food was. Which again, was great! Thank you for a great first experience!

They say they deliver, what a joke every time I have called to order they say to busy, short on staff or some other excuse.
The people who answer the phone to take oder are rude and very unprofessional!
I placed our order, my husband got there and when got home they did not give us our full order. Now mind you, when my husband got there they said they are not busy at all glad we placed order.
I called to see if they would deliver what they forgot and we are in delivery area.
The first person talked to said um just a minute. Then rude lady came on phone and said what's the problem.

We just found our new favorite pizza place! Michael's had wonderful thin crust pizza with homemade sauce. Our pick was the supreme. On Fridays and Sundays, the large is $2 off. We also really enjoyed the house salad and creamy garlic dressing. The salad was a step above most places, as it included spring greens, black olives, croutons, and garbanzo beans.
We will definitely be back to this cute place in Beaverdale.

Found this place to try on Yelp. We had onions rings for an appetizer, all meat pizza and BBQ chicken pizza. Shelby had shrimp pasta. The menu said thick cut onion rings but they were shoestring onions rings. Good flavor in the breading and mixed well with ranch dressing. Pizza was thin crust which isn't my favorite but held up better than most I've had in DM. The rest of the pizza was great and loved the BBQ sauce. Pasta was cooked just right and alfredo was a nice pairing with the shrimp. Prices were average for DM. If you plan on dining in keep in mind the place is small.

My favorite pizza in Des Moines! Great family owned business. I've never had any problem with an order here. It's always made right and on time when they say it will be ready. Excellent toppings like Graziano's sausage highlight the offerings. I usually get carry out, but the dining area is comfortable, clean and a good place to have a home made pizza!

This place ties with Gusto for me. My hubs and I tried the Michaels favorite the 1st time around and just tried the sweet and savory tonight. We also got the stuffed peppers app both times and those are so good!! We tried to make something like those at home but just can't them as to be as good. The pizza has a really great thin crust and the people there are super nice. Definitely give it a try!
