Providing the best martial arts instruction for over thirty-five years, the American School of Empty Hand Fighting, Inc. was founded in 1971 by Sifu H. David Collins. Starting with a small class in the front office of the present building, David's intention was to promote excellence in the martial arts.

In itself, the Fire and Water Martial Arts is a unique blend of several fighting styles. For this reason, the Fire and Water Mixed Martial Artists are versatile in virtually all areas of hand-to-hand combat. They study both full contact and empty hand fighting techniques, grappling, ground fighting, throws and takedowns, and controlling their opponent through both physics principles and joint locking techniques.
Most modern fighting styles have been influenced by Chinese Kung Fu. Kung Fu is comprised of a large collection of martial arts that date back thousands of years. Although there are many variants, the underlining theme is that of using your opponents' force and momentum against them. Like many systems, Chinese Kung Fu is the foundation for the Fire and Water Martial Arts, particularly the animal systems of Shaolin Kung Fu.
If there is one thing that Fire and Water is known for, it is our full contact fighters. The Fire and Water philosophy has always been: To be a good fighter, one must both hit and be hit. In a life threatening situation the ability to take a punch may make all the difference between success and failure.
