Our objectives are to assist each resident in achieving their greatest practicable, physical, social, and emotional well being; to return each resident, whenever possible, to an independent living environment; and to provide a nurturing professional staff in order to achieve both facility and individual resident goals.
Many of our neighbors find that spending a few hours with our residents is a personally rewarding and uplifting experience. Whether it's just occasionally or on a regular basis, volunteers are greatly appreciated and are most certainly welcome! For more information on becoming a Pines Volunteer, contact the Activities Director at either Campus.

Services
Staffed by compassionate and dedicated professionals, both the Olean Campus and Machias Campus of The Pines are known for their expertise in delivering state-of-the-art Long-Term Care and Short-Term Rehabilitation services to the citizens of Cattaraugus County and neighboring communities. Care is provided in a warm, home-like setting enhanced by the natural beauty of the towering pine trees that are the trademark of each Campus.
An area which included Olean, the 29th largest town in Cattaraugus County, was purchased from the Indians by the Holland Land Company in 1787. In 1804, Adam Hoops, an agent of the Holland Land Company, purchased the acreage of Cattaraugus County which today encompasses both the Town and City of Olean, originally known as "Hamilton" and "Olean Point".
The Pines offers a full range of Rehabilitation Services at both the Machias Campus and Olean Campus. The Therapy Department at The Pines is not just for our Long Term Residents. Many come to The Pines for a rehabilitation stay after surgery or an illness to gain strength and skills before returning to their normal everyday life.
The Pines' Activities professionals at each Campus provide a wide range of interesting, age appropriate and meaningful activities for the residents of the Pines. Whether the preference is for individual or group activities, our residents find many things to occupy their time! A wide variety of activities are available on a daily basis through the activity department.
However, there is always the need for volunteers at both of our locations: The Pines - Machias Campus and The Pines - Olean Campus. Our residents enjoy year-round volunteers; volunteers who make them feel special. Volunteers need not have a "special talent".
Volunteers do such things as read to the residents, help with Bingo, take residents on "walks", travel with the Activities Department on outings, polish a resident's fingernails, bake a special "treat" to be shared with several residents, play a musical instrument, sing to the residents, etc.All volunteers will receive a general orientation to the facility, its procedures, safety precautions, etc. before starting their volunteer service.

Not a good indication of character or employee vetting when a CNA employed by Pines, Deanna Weaver, goes on public forums of local newspapers and literally laughs at people talking about the death of their loved ones due to Covid and calls them "comical sobbing stories".
A public health crisis should not be a political dividing line and it certainly doesn't speak well of the empathy and care that Pines Healthcare employees provide. Do not send your loved ones to Pines if you're wanting empathetic care from their nursing staff.
