Over our years working together, we teachers at Learning Circle Preschool have been inspired by the preschool programs in Reggio Emilia, Italy. This exemplary model of early childhood education has at its core a deep belief in the competence and creativity of young children. The children's work is extensively documented using photographs, the children's own drawings, dictations from the children, and videos of classroom projects in action.
This documentation helps teachers develop curriculum meaningful to the children, and helps children remember and share their experiences together. Documentation also gives family members a concrete picture of each child's day at school.

The mission of Learning Circle Preschool, Inc. is to create child-centered, individualized, developmentally appropriate programs serving preschool children and their families. Founded on respectful and nurturing interactions between teachers and children, and building on each child's curiosity and creativity, we come together as a classroom community whose goal is to inspire a lifelong love of exploration, thought, and learning.
In addition to teaching in the Chickadee classroom, the Director is responsible for all aspects of the school's operations. She enrolls children, meets with parents, keeps records, hires and supervises staff, assists with and oversees curriculum development, offers staff training, organizes parent discussions, writes the newsletter, and generally assures the smooth operation of the school when anything else comes up.
Each year, the summer program begins the Monday after the academic year ends and continues for siz weeks. The program runs Monday-Thursday each week, with options to attend either two or four days. Hours are 8:30-12:30, allowing time for relaxed exploration and a lunch brought from home.
Typically, Katrina and Barbara teach in the summer and an additional teacher from our regular staff joins when there are a sufficient number of children attending. With two teachers, we maintain a group with a maximum of 15 children (between 2.9 and 7) at any one time, and if more children attend maintain a 7 to 1 ratio.

A few years ago, we came up with a design for an outdoor stage to enhance play opportunities for children on the playground.
With a LOT of help on construction (Mike Griffin drew out a design that would work and has worked tirelessly constructing the stage this fall along with Christian Diamandis and family, and with help from James Doherty) and with the support of the many families who donated funds for the stage through our Annual Appeal, we met our goal!
