Imagine how helpful it would be if someone delivered your medications right to your door; or if someone could stop and visit your loved one when you couldn't be there. Harbor Hospice volunteers do all that - and so much more. All Harbor Hospice volunteers go through a comprehensive training. During the training, they see the many ways that volunteer help is used throughout the organization.
Harbor Hospice is a community-based non-profit hospice serving a five-county area along the lakeshore of West Michigan. Since our founding in 1982 our mission has been to provide high quality end of life care, serving all with 'empathy, expertise and excellence'. The Harbor Hospice philosophy of care places the needs of patients and their families first. Our comprehensive care for terminally ill patients and resources for their families allows them to enjoy their last months, weeks, or days of their lives together as completely as possible for as long as possible.
Home care is the core of what hospice care is all about. Nine out of ten Americans faced with a terminal illness express the wish to die at home, free of pain, surrounded by people they love. Hospice care delivered to you in your own home helps make that wish a possibility. It is not an easy task for a family to take the role of caregiver for the terminally ill loved one.
Harbor Hospice staff discuss treatment preferences and patient beliefs and values with patients and caregivers. These discussions help ensure all patient needs are met and that patients and caregivers are involved in care decisions at the end of life. Harbor Hospice was there for our mother during her last days, and now was there for our father.

I reluctantly allowed my girlfriend Michele R Bowman(17 years) upon advice from her family to go into Harbor Hospice Poppen house for her final days battling cancer. Over the years I've heard nothing but wonderful things from Hospice programs. That was simply not the case here. Speaking as her power of attorney Harbor Hospice failed me and Michele. The sales woman came to the hospital to show the deceased's family how wonderful experience that harbor hospice has to offer. Harbor hospice was a horrible experience. They failed me and Michele, they did not live upto my requests upon agreeing to enroll

Harbor hospice has impeccable bedside manner and services for the family. Unfortunately, we needed their services this past week for a family member. They had all the answers to everyone's questions and they were very patient. I had to call them at 4am. Jeff, on call RN was wonderful. He told us everything he was doing and handled all the post mortem care. He gave us time to share what was important to us and followed through with our wishes. I just can't say enough good things about them so, I'll stop here.

Thank you to the wonderful people here who helped my father, Andries Steketee, and our family, while he passed peacefully from this life.
Every aspect was handled with dignity, grace, and love. The nurses, aides, and even the guys who so expeditiously brought whatever we needed, I cannot thank you enough.
Special thanks to Mary, for also making sure we were OK, and for the comforting hugs you gave at the end.
