Chicago Dance Latin & Ballroom School founded in 1976, attracts people from all cultures, ages, and backgrounds. Chicago Dance offers Ballroom and Latin dance lessons. We teach private lessons and group classes for all kinds of dances, including Swing, Argentine Tango, Nightclub, Salsa, and Waltz, and work with all different levels of students.
Our teachers are highly trained professionals, certified as dance instructors, and working dance performers. Together they offer over 100 years of combined teaching and performing experience. Taking dance lessons before our wedding was such a wonderful way to make time for each other in the busy days leading up to our wedding. We spent hours laughing while learning-our instructor really brought out the best in us as a couple. I think we'll show off our stuff at every dancing opportunity for the rest of our lives!
Each class is part of a 4-week series. The course series start at the beginning of each month and run for 4 consecutive weeks. Most classes are progressive meaning that new material is added to what was taught in the previous class. For the best learning experience, we ask that you register prior to the start of any new session (the 1st of the month) and plan to attend all 4 classes.

My now-husband and I used Chicago Dance for choreography for our first dance at our wedding. We met with Sam for our consultation and talked her through our experience level (limited), some constraints (my husband is deaf with cochlear implants), and our expectations for what we wanted to get out of the sessions. While Sam had her work cut out for her with us, she never let her cards show and was 100% patient and kind throughout ever lesson. The BEST place to learn dancing! As new dancers, my boyfriend and I have been taking Daniel's class called Dancing for Every Occasion. He is friendly and is really great at explaining the steps, making it easy for us to excel. This is our third month taking his classes!

My fiance and I took dance lessons for our first dance with Samantha. She was great! We came in with a song in mind and she helped us think through what would work for us and explained the game plan. We had limited time and she helped us think through our own comforts and constraints given that we only had a month. She helped us choreograph a fun dance routine which we loved. I would recommend Chicago Dance for couples seeking first dance lessons.

Let me preface this with neither my fiancé nor myself are dancers (we can barely hear a beat). Daniel from the first class increased our confidence, making us feel more comfortable with both the music and awkwardness of the dreaded 1st dance. I would absolutely recommend any couple learn from Daniel for wedding practice! He's fantastic and we'll miss seeing him weekly!

I took both group and private dance lessons here as a beginner dancer. Emilee, Heather, and the rest of the staff are an extremely responsive group of people who are on top of appointments, never miss anything, and provide excellent instruction. I would certainly recommend this studio to anyone who wants to do either group or private lessons.

I am new to Chicago Dance. And I am 62 yrs old. I have started taking private lessons with Sam. He is a wonderful teacher to work with. I am highly motivated to learn to dance in a social setting, something I have gone a lifetime without, however I felt extremely intimidated, in part due to my age. Sam put me at ease and within one lesson I picked up some basic dance steps. He breaks it down into bite size pieces and has a great eye for detail so is able to work with me on any changes I need to make right in the moment. I plan on staying with it! I have nothing but love for Chicago Dance. My husband and I took around 15 lessons over the span of 4-5 months. For our first dance, we wanted to blend ballroom and tap, so Emilee and Richard worked together to create a dance routine that was truly unique for us. Though I love my husband, he has two left feet when it comes to dancing and Gregory had an innate way of making him feel comfortable and proud of his progress. When we walked out onto that dance floor we were confident and ready because of Gregory. He and his team at Chicago Dance were amazing, and I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who wants to learn to partner dance. They were patient, accommodating and their studio is gorgeous. After posting the below original review Gregory called me to personally apologize for my experience and refunded the class. He agreed that cell phone usage by the instructor and ending the class early were not acceptable and said that he will work to ensure that does not happen again. He also agreed that classes should be flexible based on the students. I really appreciated his professionalism and care. I believe the below was unfortunate but not reflective of the dance studio as a whole.

If you've been wanting to learn a new skill, meet new people, or improve your swag on the dance floor, come to Chicago Dance! They are friendly, laid back and know their stuff. Bachata has always been on my list and when I moved to Chicago last year I finally challenged myself to learn it. Gracey is a wonderful and patient teacher who loves the dance. I always look forward to Wednesday nights with my 'dance crew'!

As I mourn my upcoming breakup with ClassPass, I am going to reflect on our beautiful relationship we've had. One of my absolute favorite ClassPass classes is Doonya with Nikki at Chicago Dance. Disclaimer: Since I haven't tried out the private dance lessons or the other classes Chicago Dance offers, this review is solely for Chicago Dance's Doonya class.

My fiance and I had a great time at Chicago Dance. We had no idea how to dance. Literally. Never been out dancing. Between the two of us, we have four left feet total. We signed up in order to learn for our first dance. Despite the lack of dance ability, we wanted to do a dance together as well as one that included our friends. Our instructor, Stan, not only taught us to dance our slow dance, he choreographed and taught us his own original dance to a very silly song.

We went to Chicago Dance to learn a routine for our wedding. We wanted our first dance to be memorable.
Our instructor's name was Maciej and he was absolutely amazing. Throughout our 10 lessons he proved to be knowledgeable, friendly and fun. He worked with us to develop a dance that displayed our strengths and we couldn't wait for our next lesson.
Our dance turned out beautifully. Many people told us that it was the best 'first dance' at a wedding that they have ever seen.
We are incredibly pleased that we chose Chicago Dance and that we ended up with such an amazing instructor

Excellent instructors; we wanted to learn some waltz and salsa for a wedding dance and were assigned Alisa. She is passionate about dance, patient with our learning style and overall she is amazing. Excellent service; Matt will always greet you and sign you in politely. Gregory and Natasha who own the studio are tremendously friendly and fun. Excellent venue; the hard wood flooring and loft feel has multiple rooms and plenty of space to work with instructors freely. Excellent value; wedding packages offer great opportunity to meet instructors and get a nice bulk discount on the classes.

We've been going here for about a year now and enjoy it. We've done salsa and bachata. The instructors are not only great dancers themselves, but they have helped us get better and better.
Gracey is awesome for bachata, though I wish there was a more advanced class that wasn't a performance class (we did the performance class, too, and it was a big boost in our skill and confidence level to perform an entire piece).
Chris and Kevin are amazing for salsa. I can't speak for the other instructors, but I have seen Cate W. dancing and have a hunch she is really good.

Took one month of intro to salsa class. I enjoyed it. So, I took a second month. After two months, I didn't come out an expert, but I know enough to confidently lead a female through a full salsa song.
I would continue taking classes, but prefer to go out and use my dance moves at all the salsa places in Chicago.

I've taken latin ballroom private lessons at a couple places outside Chicago before and have not found a place that was as professional yet fun as Chicago Dance. The studio is spacious and clean with really nice bathrooms. All the teachers there are super friendly and welcoming. My teacher, Paul, is awesome. Really good at teaching and explains how to do the moves very clearly. He's also fun to dance with. Lastly, this is probably the most tech savvy dance studio i've been to, makes booking, canceling, rescheduling, and checking into class very convenient. Highly recommend.
