This year many of our customers have called to for advice on their boxwoods. It looks like the boxwoods have come back with a brown yellow discoloration on the newest growth tips with stems that are brittle and easily snap.
There are two major issues that folks need to be aware of - an insect called the Boxwood leafminer (maggot) and record-breaking low winter temperatures and wind chills Chicago faced this last winter that reached a detrimental temperature of -60F.The boxwoods look green and healthy last season and the discoloration only started with spring.

Tree removal was great, but apparently when the contract says stump grinding, that means they do not remove the mulched stump grindings. I now have a large mound of grindings where the tree was that I have to hire a landscaper to remove. I even verified via email and got a response from Windy City that "the crew will also be taking the debris and cleaning up after the removal." Apparently, stump grindings are not considered "tree debris??" Make sure you get this clarified in your proposal from them. I had also asked to be listed as "additional insured" on their certificate

In November 2020 Windy City Tree Service came out to give four of our oak trees a major thinning out of their trunks and branches. Two major trunks from two separate trees were threatening our neighbors roof. Windy Tree Service performed very professionally. They arrived on time did the job as promised and cleaned up not only my yard, but the neighbors yard afterwards and in great detail. Removed all debris and were very careful of the gardens that were planted nearby.
My wife and I have called on the again for removal of overgrown bushes and to replace them. I have much confidence in Windy City

Windy City Tree Service did such an awesome job trimming some big old maple trees hanging over the house, removing a lot of old bushes to make way for a new fence and removed a bunch of old tree stumps in the yard. They definitely know their stuff. I highly recommend them to any one looking for any type of tree service.

I just had a large 4 large trees cut down and a few others trimmed. Windy City was very professional and knowledgeable about their services. They also gave us great pricing. They Ended up doing 3 other families in our neighborhood. I highly recommend. Small family owned and the owner is on the crew doing the work himself. You don't get that very often and it was very appreciated.
I will be using them again and referring them business as well!!

Windy City did a great job trimming the huge tree in my backyard. They also trimmed one of my neighbors trees that was dead and hanging over in my yard at no extra charge. They also did a great job of cleaning up. I liked their work so much that I had them design a plot and plant some annuals in the yard of my wife’s family home. I would use their services again.

Windy City Tree Service was great. They provided some general pruning services around my yard, climbed to the top of my 40+ foot Sycamore tree and cut back all of the branches that were dangerously over hanging the house, cut down a dying tree and replanted a beautiful dogwood in its place. The crew was on time, skilled, professional and cleaned the yard and street as if they were never there. The office staff was very responsive in getting quotes, scheduling, follow-up and providing addition information. I can not say enough good things about this company. I gave them a star because they used to do good work, but this most recent time they never called after they requested that I text them the info, and after I called them back and set up an appointment, they never showed and said they forgot, then blamed the President because their workers ran away or are being deported. First of all, don't hire illegal aliens. Second, don't tell others you do. I'm not giving these criminals another dollar. Pretty bad business, especially with a repeat customer.

Loved the work Windy City did for me at all levels. The price was so reasonable and fair, the crew was very quick, friendly, and very very clean. They cleaned up everything after them and left the place as clean as before cutting the tree. I will definitely hire them again for any tree cutting/trimming or landscaping design work. They were amazing, seriously! You won't regret it.

The whole process from start to finish was easy and perfect! They came out and gave us our quote quickly and we were able to set up the appointment for the next week. The guys were all great and I am amazed by their talent, respect and wonderful work! We cannot say enough good things about this company!
