History Report

The History of Jiu-Jitsu on the island of Kaua'i, Hawai'i "How it all started". In 1991, the first Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-jitsu class on Kauai started in Haena, on the north shore of the island. I had some videos with some vale-tudo fights from Rio de Janeiro and after showing to the locals and a few grappling matches later, I convinced them it was time to learn some Gracie Jiu-jitsu.

Visiting from California in August 2021, I dropped in at open mat on Friday at 5 pm, and No Gi on Saturday at 10 am. Really great instruction from Dominic on Saturday, and great rolls with Russ and others both days. Some good hard rounds, but no egos. Good vibes. And a very reasonable drop in fee (cash only). Highly recommend this gym!

Great people!
Great jiu-jitsu!
Big kids classes, reasonable drop in fees.
I took a private lesson and loved it.
If you are visiting or live on the island you should stop in and try a class!
Julian and Luke are great.

I had a great time training with Professor Luke and the crew while visiting Kauai for my honeymoon. Really enjoyed the training. Started with some self defense, then some technique, and a few rolls to end class with. All around great time. Thanks for letting me drop in and learn!

Frickin loved this gym! Stopped in while back on vacation and had a great time! Luke, Julian and the folks were totally welcoming. The gym is a little difficult to find, it's tucked in the back of the Kukuiula store, behind Da Crack. Good dudes, tough rolls, and a hose out back to shower off with. What else do you need?

I did a few classes at Longman while vacationing in Poipu. It’s a great place with very friendly and knowledgeable people. Julian and Luke were great. I look forward to returning each time I’m on Kaua’i.
