Professor Pono started his journey in Martial Arts from a young age. It all began with Taekwondo and Kali. In 1997 he began to walk on the endless road of Gracie Jiu jitsu. Professor Pono has been a 1st responder for the Kauai Fire Department since 2001. Nick began training Jiu-Jitsu in the late 1990's at the age of 14 with his older brother, Pono.
He has been an assistant instructor for KTI Jiu-Jitsu for nearly 15 years and is currently the head instructor for our Eleele academy. Nick was awarded his black belt by Professor Rylan Lizares and Master Pedro Sauer at Gracie Technics Honolulu in November of 2017. He is a Black belt under Master Pedro Sauer and Professor Pono.

KTI is a Gracie jiu jitsu school that offers classes for beginners and advanced levels. I tried it out when I moved to Kauai after it was recommended to me by my Oahu school, Gracie Technics (Rylan Lizares). I'm a pretty small female, and there aren't many other girls at the school, but all of the guys have been really kind & welcoming. I've learned A LOT in a really short amount of time, and am stoked that they are starting to offer more classes in the mornings and on weekends.
