Orthodontics is the field of medical science that deals primarly with malocclusions, or improper bites. Most malocclusions are inherited, as seen in patients with crowding, spacing, protrusions, and extra/missing teeth. Others are caused environmentally, by harmful habits (such as thumb-sucking, tongue thrusting, and night-grinding), dental disease, or facial accidents.
We offer a variety of treatment plans for many types of patients, covering all age groups and common dentofacial abnormalities. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends an initial orthodontic check-up occurs between the ages of 5 and 7. By this time, your child's first permanent molars and incisors will have probably started to emerge, and Dr. Hyduk will be able to spot any subtle problems with the growth of the jaw.
