Metrowest Kung Fu
Metrowest Kung Fu is a branch of Shaolin Kung Fu Centers, which was founded in Worcester Massachusetts by Sigung Joe Maury in 1990. Sigung Maury started studying Huaquan Kung Fu () with Master Chen Hai Fuk in 1979. Master Chen had studied Huaquan under the last known Huaquan master, Cai Guigin ().

After many years of teaching in Massachusetts, Sigung and his wife Sifu Sara moved south, and Sigung's student Sifu Gary LaChapelle took over the Massachusetts location. After receiving black belts in Karate and Tae Kwon Do in his home state of New Hampshire, Sihing Eliot Prisby became a student of Sifu Gary at The Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy of New England in 2009, and began learning Huaquan Kung Fu and Yang Style Tai Chi (.)
Services
We study Hua Quan Kung Fu (), a traditional Chinese martial art dating back to the 5th century. Our curriculum includes calisthenics, stretching, and cardio through the practice of forms, weapons, partner drills, and applications. We use drills, isometrics, body weight exercises, and bag work to increase our strength and endurance.
Through the conditioning of our body, we discipline our mind and gain a greater understanding of ourselves. By understanding ourselves, we learn to live in harmony with our emotions and our environment. This cultivation of the whole being gives us the serenity to carry out our life tasks. Though we think of ourselves as a Kung Fu family, Kung Fu is not a team sport.
Translating to Supreme Ultimate Fist, ' Tai Chi Quan () is a Taoist martial art that is practiced slowly and gently. Some study Tai Chi for its benefits to balance and body awareness. Many find its pursuit of natural relaxation effective in stress-relief. Martial arts students often augment their training with Tai Chi to increase their understanding of body mechanics and energy transfer, making them more solidly-rooted, effective fighters.
Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they're meant to be. Our yoga classes are relaxed and accessible to students of any level.
Though training will certainly result in a superb level of physical fitness, it will not necessarily result in the acquisition of extraordinary stamina or superhuman strength. More important, training will result in obtaining a high level of reaction force, concentration, equilibrium, breath control, and speed.

I’ve been attending weekly kickboxing classes with Sihing Eliot for a year and a half, it’s a fantastic workout incorporating bag work, cardio, Kung fu and some yoga.
Eliot opened my eyes to the importance of stretching and flexibility and is super encouraging (my flexibility was shocking when I started!)
The class is fun with a welcoming family feel, we have a laugh and leave feeling great
Eliot is just the loveliest person, he cares about the community and is a wonderful instructor, I’m hoping my daughter will attend his kids Kung fu classes in the future

I am a woman in her 40s and was looking to get in a good workout but also enjoy something a little more focused on form and if possible, a spiritual/mindful aspect as well. I get all of that by taking the kickboxing classes and I honestly love them. It is a nice cardio workout but incorporates some Kung Fu practice as well, so it isn't just whaling on a bag.
Eliot, the owner is a fantastic instructor. He is super encouraging and really kind but isn't afraid to tell you things that will make you better. Unfortunately the Tai Chi and Kung Fu classes aren't working with my current schedule, but I

Sihing Eliot is an excellent teacher who is approachable and supportive while still maintaining discipline and encouraging his students to work super hard towards personal achievements. It's a real community-centered, supportive, non-competitive approach which works really well for me. Plus, it's a great workout! I am in better shape now than I have been in years.

This is an excellent school to study Tai Chi and Kung Fu for all ages and abilities. Sihing Eliot is an experienced and enthusiastic martial artist. He provides a good balance between traditional martial arts and applications. Kung Fu classes consist of a good warmup that builds strength and flexibility followed by a mix of Kung Fu skills and forms. Weapons and Sparring are each done 2 days a week. Tai Chi classes have a gentle warmup with a mix of slow warmup movements and various breathing exercises. The remaining part of the class is usually practicing individual postures, doing forms, push

I was worried that the yoga classes would be too advanced or that they would be too "serious", if that makes sense. What I found is classes that are balanced for all levels with a light vibe and none of the attitude that can ruin a yoga studio. Highly recommend.

I've been looking for a good place to learn martial arts, get in shape, and not entirely break myself because I'm not 21 anymore (my knees aren't great and back could be better). I found that and more at Metrowest Kung Fu: Sihing Eliot is a natural teacher, and fosters a positive environment that drives everyone to push themselves to improve, get stronger and learn. The stretching and overall strength training have made my knees and back feel a lot better, and I find myself looking forward to each class - for a guy like myself who hates exercise, that's saying a lot.

My son started taking Kids' Kung Fu last month. It has been wonderful for him! Sihing Eliot is extremely kind, patient, and encouraging. He is exceptionally good with children who need more behavioral or social support. He teaches safety, discipline, and respect and makes it FUN!! My son looks forward to his classes all week! I highly recommend Metrowest Kung Fu!
