In 1968, Fu Chen was developed by psychologist Dr. Stacey Shook. Fu Chen is a combination of the arts he studied, distinguished by long arm movements and low stances, with an emphasis on self defense. Philosophy and psychological concepts to aid the student in daily life are an integral part of the art.
Originally The Santa Ynez Cultural Center, the name was changed in 2004 to Insight Martial Arts by the third generation owner. Fu Chen has studios in Santa Barbara and Rhinelander, WI. As passionate as we are about martial arts, we are not above playing on rocks and being silly. A typical class in a kung fu school will include stance training, punching and kicking drills, floor moves, rolls and falls, forms, and light sparring.
