What style of martial arts am I learning? Shotokan Karate - A traditional Japanese Art of self-defense developed by Gichin Funakoshi from Okinawa. What is the difference between Shotokan and other martial arts? All styles of martial arts execute techniques in a way to gain maximum power. Some styles may emphasize flexibility and high kicks such as Tae-Kwon Do, others emphasize circular motions such as Kung Fu.
Each class is taught by a qualified instructor who has been trained to work with children. The curriculum is specifically designed for Pre-K thru 5th grade students and focuses on discipline, concentration, self-control, and basic self-defense skills. In a society where our schedules are so busy, and family time is hard to come by, parents appreciate the convenience of having a positive activity located on the school grounds.
Our "Tiger Cubs" class is for children 2 to 4 years old and provides a great opportunity to strengthen your bond with your child as it is a parent and child participation class. In this program, we focus on building gross motor skills as well as working on listening skills using games, music, and martial arts techniques.
Our "Little Tigers" curriculum is specifically designed for children age 4 to 7 years old. Students learn discipline, focus, self control and stranger awareness skills, all while having a great time. Our instructors are helpful, friendly, and strict when necessary. We work hard with every child to develop an "I CAN" attitude, and build skills that will last a lifetime.
Students learn at their own pace, with a strong emphasis on personal achievement, courtesy, respect and goal setting. Our "Karate Kids" curriculum includes traditional Shotokan karate katas, self-defense techniques, sparring fundamentals, and skill building games that encourage and motivate. Students participate in activities such as, skill building games, focus drills, & basic karate self defense techniques.

I trained with Sensei Welbon for 10 years when I was younger. He has the perfect mix of knowledge, skill, humor, and empathy. He runs his dojo with high expectations not only of karate, but also character. It truly is a safe and positive place to train and grow. He helped me stay in shape, learn self defense, learn self discipline and also place 2nd at Nationals. Although I no longer do karate due to my busy lifestyle and the fact I moved away, I can still see the positive influence of his teaching and karate in my daily life. My highest recommendation for anyone looking for a dojo.

All 5 of my children have taken karate lessons from Chris Welbon Karate Club at some point. Not only did they learn karate skills, they learned discipline and responsibility in a loving, safe environment. It's a great place to let your kids take lessons, go to camp, or attend after school care.

Chris Welbon was so great with my son when he went here. Firm but a lot of fun. My son connected with him and his employees quickly and had a great time and learned a lot. Chris gave great gentle nudges to get the most out of my son to help my kid feel proud of what he could accomplish. Highly recommend! Great program and wonderful environment.
