Services
We believe all body systems and mental/emotional health are connected. We take a whole body approach to discover why patients are not healing and what were the initial causes of their current symptoms. Our mission is to use this whole body approach to help patients heal and overcome pain and limitations, resulting in improved quality of life.
At The Manual Touch Physical Therapy, we use a Whole Body Approach to create unique traditional and non-traditional manual therapy and exercise plans for teenagers and adults to reclaim function, life, movement, and enjoyment of the activities they love. We are a nine-year old, single-practitioner owned practice located in Wheeling, a northern suburb of Chicago.
Many people come to Physical Therapy for an injury or pain in their soft tissue such as a muscle, tendon or ligament commonly referred to as sprains, or strains (pulled or torn). Bone or joint issues such as a fracture, bone bruise, arthritis, degeneration, dislocation, or stenosis in the spine are other common reasons people seek help.
Lower back pain (LBP), including sciatica, is the number one reason why people seek out medical attention. Your lower back is made up of five lumbar vertebrae, which has an inward curve known as lordosis, and a right and left sciatic nerve.
The sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body, exits the spine between the last three spinal segments, travels down the buttock underneath the glute and piriformis muscles, behind the thigh, and then splits behind the knee to travel down to the foot. You can have sciatic pain, numbness or tingling anywhere along its path usually caused by an issue in the spine.

Denise has been very helpful within 2 sessions on getting my running back on track after a bad bout with plantar fasciitis. The app is a nice touch with video to guide you on using proper technique. I am thankful my wife had already been a client recommend me.
Happy to say I was able to compete in my first 10k since March 2020. Looking forward to staying on track moving forward.

I have experienced lower disk problems for more than 30 years. After numerous visits to multiple Physical Therapists, I have found this round of therapy to be extremely productive. Denise and Kevin have helped me to a full recovery from this lower back pain episode in about two weeks. They are both very knowledgeable and I would highly recommend using their services for therapy.

I injured my hip while doing lots of walking during this past year of COVID. I went to a traditional physical therapist who brought me along a little bit, but my progress plateaued. I went to see the therapists at The Manual Touch, and with their holistic approach, I not only healed, but I gained strength and mobility in my core. I can never thank them enough.

Denise has made an enormous impact on my life. I go to The Manual Touch for both traditional and non-traditional therapy. The traditional therapy has helped me regain strength and align my hips after a few major car accidents. I used to have severe hip pain almost every day and would stretch and use heating pads.
Now, I do the exercises Denise gave and showed me. The non-traditional therapy I have gotten at TMT has helped me recognize and manage my anxiety and set personal boundaries. It has also helped me with my sleep patterns. The biggest change has been through the non-traditional therapy

I truly cannot say enough about Denise - she is the most wonderful physical therapist. This week, I had very bad back and hip pain. I called Denise; even though she was booked the entire day, she came in early to help me before her other patients. I immediately felt better after seeing her. She is kind and thoughtful and truly a one-of-a-kind therapist.

Denise treated my back injury and helped me quickly return to comfort and the activities I enjoy! When I last injured my back and tried P.T., I treated for 7 months with none of the results Denise helped me achieve in a fraction of that amount of time. I really enjoyed her personal and customized approach, and the fact that she treated other issues that were plaguing me to help me improve my movement and function. Every time I unload the dishwasher and use the proper posture to protect my back, I'll think of Denise!

I met Denise at a local yoga studio and she became instrumental when it comes to coping with all my aches and pains. She has a holistic approach to physical therapy which many other practitioners seem to lack. I’ve done physical therapy before and a pain in the shoulder would be treated with strengthening the muscles around it. It never worked because shoulder pain can actually originate in other places - like hip stiffness caused by bad posture, shoes, soft chairs, etc. She really cares and educates on the body’s alignment.
I would not go anywhere else and I send all my friends and family

Denise Schwartz is an exceptional practitioner. My core health and strength have been incredibly improved. Through the weeks of Physical Therapy at Manual Touch she has given me tools to use (exercises) to continue to maintain my strength when these sessions end. My initial symptom was my painful knees but immediately Denise saw that the origin of my problem was in my hips.
The recommendation to Manual Touch was solid but when it turned out that Denise had trained with my wonderful Physical Therapist from Connecticut where I had not lived for 25 years our jaws dropped.
