Services
Root River Veterinary Center began operation in 1981; at that time we treated predominantly livestock and the occasional pet. A lot has changed in the past 30 years including our perspective on pet healthcare! In 2011, Root River Veterinary Center became the only veterinary clinic in Fillmore County that is focused exclusively on providing healthcare for cats and dogs.
We are happy to offer a number of resources to help you best care for your pets. Many health and behavioral problems can be prevented before they even start. Becoming knowledgeable about preventative pet care is essential to the ongoing success of your animal's health. If you have any questions, call (507) 765-2117 or email us and we'll promptly get back to you.
We now offer you an easier way to take care of your pet. Request appointments, medication refills, and get alerts when your pet is coming due for medical care. Just use the email you have on file with us at the clinic when you create an account and your pet's information will automatically appear in the app!
We offer thorough and compassionate Wellness Exams which are a crucial ingredient to your pet living a long and healthy life. Schedule an appointment for a wellness exam through our PetDesk App today! The emergency service is staffed during the evenings and weekend hours with veterinarians who are trained in emergency medicine and licensed technicians.
We live in a rural area and many diseases that we vaccinate against still exist in our wildlife population. Protecting your pet against preventable diseases is a key component to keeping them healthy. Each pet has individual exposure to disease and will have a vaccination schedule designed to suit his unique needs.

After losing our 18-year-old cat over a year ago, we had not felt ready to get another pet. In September, a stray kitten appeared in our back yard, hiding under our garden cart. After making sure the kitten didn't belong to anyone, we called Root River Veterinary Center for some initial advice to help calm the frightened kitten and adopted her. After a few weeks, we took her there for her first appointment. The doctors and staff were very quick but thorough in their evaluation so that Pippa was not too frightened. I have never had anything but great service at Root River Veterinary Center.

Everyone was very friendly and caring. Even with some Covid precautions in place, drop off and pick up was extremely easy. Murphy was well cared for and they are also affordable.

I am new to the area, when I called they accepted new clients. I decided to go with a small town vet as they are more personable and actually seem to care a little more than a big city. They fixed both my babies up and am very grateful! The vet even called herself to see how My kitty was doing! Very much appreciated!

Brought my new puppy in for her first visit. They were very informative with things I should do and when to get necessary testing and procedures done. Super helpful with any questions I had about products. We recently got her spayed. They called when they were done to let me know how she did and to inform me of an infection she had. I was so thankful they kept me updated and took care of her so well. She loves going there too as they have yummy treats. :)

Sneaky is a stray cat, we didn’t know when we would be able to catch him but when we did they accommodated us to get him neutered and his vaccinations while making it stressless for him.
Their compassion is admirable.

We have taken our three beloved cats to Root River Vet for about 20 years. They have been with us in all stages--from new-adoptee Lisbeth to end-of-life care for Buster and Sparky. Always in good hands.
