Harter Funeral Home
Since 1836, our family has proudly dedicated ourselves to providing the highest quality funeral services to the families of our community. Since our establishment, our firm has always been family owned and operated and has become one of the longest standing family owned funeral firms in all of New York State.

Please take a moment to learn more about our history of service. Our story starts with Issac Harter. Originally a native of Herkimer County, in Southern NY. As a young adult, Issac relocated to Mexico, NY. In moving to Mexico, he started his own business making and selling cabinets locally. While in the cabinet business, Isaac began to build caskets as well.

The Harter Funeral Home staff is committed to our community. We are very proud to have served our friends and neighbors for generations, and pledge to do so for generations to come; to be ever evolving as we serve and to put the care and satisfaction of the families that we serve, above all else. In 1836, Issac Harter established the Harter Funeral Service in Parish, NY. Nearly two centuries, and seven generations later, the Harter Funeral Home Family is extremely proud to have grown to three Central New York locations, dedicated to celebrating our community. Obituaries act as quiet reminders of the finite nature of our lives. Yet, for those who have recently experienced the death of a family member or friend, an obituary means so much more. It is a bittersweet reminder of all we've lost, but it can also help us to remember all we enjoyed while they were alive.
The Harter Funeral Homes are full service funeral homes. Our years of tradition and experience, combined with our eye for innovation and growth, allows us to proudly provide customizable funeral service options to fit your every need and budget. From simple to detailed, our services options are designed to provide meaningful service to families, exactly the way they want them.
All we need to do is say the word "funeral" and within microseconds, you have an image in your mind of what a funeral looks like. This mental image comes from many sources: the geographical place, culture and society in which we live; our faith; our life experience.

Obviously then, a funeral service in Borneo would look very different from one held in Tanzania; there are even significant differences between the funerals held in ethnically and/or geographically diverse regions of North America.Yet, despite the differences, these funeral services have much in common.
