Services
The Dowdle Funeral Home is a family owned and operated traditional funeral home. Founded in 1953 by Edward J. "Bud" Dowdle, our funeral home has since served the people of Oswego and the surrounding communities. Well known as the "home-like funeral home", our facilities provide the people we serve with an atmosphere of comfort and serenity.
Full service funerals followed by cremation is the same as a regular funeral except the funeral is followed by cremation rather than burial. The casket is rented, not purchased, and there is no need for a burial vault. This greatly reduces the cost of the funeral service. After the cremation, the family may have a memorial service at the funeral home or a church.
In 1990, a large addition was made to the original funeral home. In 1995, a new entrance was erected to connect the current funeral home to 156 East 4th St. These additions now provide families with well over 3000 square feet available for use during calling hours. The funeral home parking lot, directly across the street, was added in 2005.
The National Wildlife Federation is pleased to recognize the Dowdle Funeral Home's landscaping project as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. The National Wildlife Federation celebrates the funeral home's efforts to create a garden space that improves all aspects of life for birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife.
There are several reasons why an individual may wish to select and pre-pay for a funeral. A widow or widower, whose family resides out of town, might want to spare their family the brunt of having to do arrangements at short notice. The thought of future nursing home care depleting family funds may be another reason, or the fact that pre-paying will allow the settlement of funeral expenses at today's prices.

Recently my wife's mother passed away at a nursing home in Oswego. Her mother had been in Florida until recently and was there not quite two years. We needed a funeral director that was local and she reached out to Dowdle funeral home. Adrian was there to help in our time of need. We also needed to transfer her mothers prepaid funeral planning services that we did in Florida, to make matters more stressful and complicated, but Adrian and his team took care of everything which was a great relief to our family.
We were very impressed and comforted with their service and would highly recommend

These people were so compassionate during this very tough time, when our father, Robert Gehan passed away, I would just like to say 'thank you' for the beautiful service for our family.
