Services
We are an eye care practice devoted to enhancing and correcting your eyesight by using state-of-the-art technology that will result in better vision, and a better quality of life. A standard of excellence in personalized Optometric care enables us to provide the quality eye care services that our patients deserve.
Dr. Smith is a Tar Heel, born and raised a farmers son in the small town if Fairmont, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1984 with a bachelors degree in Biology. Following a 4-year Professional Therapeutic Optometric Program, Dr. Smith received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1988.
Kay came to the practice with business skills learned while working for a CPA group, and from co-owning a business with her husband. She has worked with us since 2001, learning every facet of the business. Her flair for individualized frame styling and lens options make her a favorite with patients and customers.
Dr. Smith prides himself as a vision problem solver. Despite the importance of excellence in primary medical eye care, what the majority of patients he encounters need is optimized vision through the best prescribing knowledge of optical technology. This knowledge is only acquired with years of hands on experience.
Anti-reflective Coatings (AR, Non-glare): Special anti-reflective coatings, much like those used for fine camera lenses, are available for spectacle lenses. These coatings are particularly effective for reducing eye fatigue for computer operators and anyone driving at night or working under fluorescent lighting.

Had an appointment today at 2:45 and still was not seen by 3:10. When I asked what was going on was told it would be at least 10 more minutes. I was on my lunch hour so couldn't wait. Thought I was going to see a real optometrist but would have been better off at Anericas Best or Lenscrafters. Waited a month for this appointment and they broke it!

My contact lense prescription did not come with the exam. I had to pay a fitting fee for lenses I’ve worn for over 20 years. The staff was pleasant to begin with. I’ve worked for an optometrist and worn glasses since I was 3. Once I began to question my bill, it was no longer pleasant. I felt bullied and taken advantage of. With insurance I owed over $100. vs the $20 copay my new Optometrist charges. Nice selection of quality frames. Most importantly, the doctor was knowledgeable and easy going.

LowCountry vision care exceeded my expectations for professional eye care by Dr. Smith. He is experienced, patient and engages his clients by educating them about their own eye care. Dr. Smith conducted each one of the tests personally...no changes of people conducting tests in each room. His staff members are very knowledgeable and are genuinely interested in giving each client their full attention. Kerri Leonard assisted me with check-in and insurance information. She also provided me with the most helpful guidance I have ever received when selecting my new eyeglasses. Everyone in the office

Incredible customer service!! I left my contact lens at home while on vacation (and had no glasses!) and they not only provided me with 5 days worth of my prescription at a fair price, but followed up several times to let me know what was going on with receiving the right info. from my eye doctor to get them to me as soon as possible. Mardi was so kind and accommodating. Thank you for saving my vacation!

My last O.D. was a good one, but his office help did not instruct me in how to carefully remove my new thin contact lenses. There are some techniques necessary to help Since I did not know them, I caused a hematoma in my one eye. He also, prescribed PureVision 2's which caused my eyes to water alot, and I even got an infection from putting my hands near my eyes too much. Dr. Smith is also a good O.D., but he no longer prescribes PureVision 2 contacts for personal reasons, and put me in a set of CooperVision Biofinity Multifocals. He said these are "more slippery", and he's found them to bring better

My husband was in Pawleys Island visiting from Georgia and his eye began hurting. He Googled eye doctor and found Lowcountry Vision Care. They worked him in that day and because it was a serious virus, Dr. Smith came in on Saturday to see my husband again. He then worked my husband in the following Monday before we drove home. Staff was great! Service was extraordinary! Inventory good too. I plan to go back and buy new sunglasses next time I'm in Pawleys... Which is often.
